🧠 A day to raise awareness of stroke and its impact on survivors and their families.

Here are a few scary facts:
1. Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide.
2. Every year, over 15 million people experience a stroke.
3. 1 in 4 of us will have a stroke in our lifetime.

But up to 90% of strokes are preventable! 👏🏼

Tips for prevention of stroke:
✔️No smoking
✔️> 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week
✔️Eat a healthy, balanced diet
✔️Control your blood pressure
✔️Control your blood sugar
✔️Managing your cholesterol
✔️Reduce your alcohol intake

❌ Stroke survivors are sometimes told there is limited scope for rehabilitation after three to six months.

✅ However, research suggests that with the right advice and exercises, significant recovery is possible even years after a stroke.

Arthritis affects millions of people around the world and is often an “invisible disease”. People with arthritis don’t always “look” or “act” sick, and although their pain may not always be visible, it is very real.

Let’s de-bunk a few myths surrounding arthritis & move forward in a way that promotes physical activity for those living with arthritis 👏🏼

Here are a few tips on where/how to start:
🫶🏼 Ask a qualified healthcare professional such as your physiotherapist, for a structured programme that is tailored to your needs & current level of function

🫶🏼 Begin slowly & progress gradually

🫶🏼 Select activities that are likely to “stick” - the best form of exercise is the one that you’re most likely to continue with!

Hello! My name is Jaimee 🪴🌿🌱

I graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Wits University, class of 2019. My journey with movement started with childhood ballet and evolved into a passion for plyometrics, HIIT, and strength training in university. Now, with a keen interest in running & cycling, I am embracing the challenge of my first 70.3 Ironman in November!

I wholeheartedly believe in the transformative power of movement for both physical and mental well-being, and I strive to share this passion with my clients. The human body's complexity never ceases to amaze me. I approach each case from the ground up, ensuring that we [client & me] understand the body as a whole, not just a single painful joint or injury. I've experienced the frustration of injury firsthand, recognizing the crucial need for patience and guidance to overcome it.
