What makes a good leader? Is it bravery, compassion, innovation, inspiration?
The demands of leadership are complex, but the foundation of being a good leader is rooted in meeting the needs of those who follow them.
Gallup’s latest study, Global Leadership Report: What Followers Want, launched at the World Governments Summit. Based on surveys conducted in 52 countries, this report builds on decades of research into what people desire from their leaders.
The data reveal that followers prioritize hope, trust, compassion and stability from their leaders, and these needs are consistent across countries and demographics.
When leaders meet these needs, it can lead to less suffering and better wellbeing.
To date, no other research has examined the needs of followers across such a large or global sample of people. These findings are crucial for both current and aspiring leaders seeking to understand the expectations that influence their performance and the success of the teams they lead.
While it’s true that increasing self-awareness is a key aspect of mindful leadership, the result is more than awareness of one’s individual self.
The intention is to cultivate a wider and more inclusive perspective, aspiring to loosen concern about oneself and to expand our narrow personal experience, so we adopt a more universal and less dualistic awareness (referred to as a shift from Small Mind to Big Mind).
Mindful leadership coaching supports and empowers the next generation of mindful leaders: individuals who want to take their organizations into a space of greater purpose, social responsibility, and sustainable growth by prioritizing the well-being of employees, the environment, and the wider community, while still achieving business goals through mindful decision-making and ethical practices.
