Prof Simon Schaaf’s journey in paediatrics and drug-resistant TB research has shaped global treatment standards and transformed countless young lives. With over 370 publications and a career spanning 45+ years, he remains active in clinics and international training. His work underpins WHO guidelines and South Africa’s lead in paediatric TB care. “If it’s not for the benefit of the patient, research is without purpose,” he says.
