Not sure if it’s a cold or something more? You’re not alone. In winter, we get lots of questions about the difference between viral and bacterial infections.
Here’s the short version:
👉 Viruses usually cause things like colds and flu. They tend to go away on their own with rest, fluids, and time.
👉 Bacteria can cause more serious infections like strep throat, pneumonia, or UTIs. These may need antibiotics.
The tricky part? They can feel very similar in the beginning. That’s why it’s always best to check in with your GP if your symptoms are severe, unusual, or not improving after a few days.
