Are you interested in becoming a counsellor at Ruach?
This course is the first step and a required prerequisite to join our volunteer counsellor team.
Please note that completing the course does not guarantee placement, as all potential counsellors will take part in a screening process after the course. You are also welcome to do this course even if you do not wish to become a counsellor, but would simply like to gain a deeper understanding of yourself from a psychological perspective.

American philosopher, Daniel Klein, is concerned about the current insistence that we set boundaries in our relationships with friends and family members. He calls it a cynical appraisal of friendship.

He cites the example of a woman who has set definite boundaries as to what she and her husband will discuss, and when they will decide to withdraw from one another.

The couple had grown apart and had been living without genuine closeness for so long that she had forgotten how much she missed it. No "boundaries formula" was going to change that. The bottom line is, that she had to decide if she was willing to live without intimacy for the rest of her life.

His opinion really challenged me. Yes, there are situations (e.g. where mental health issues prevail) where boundaries must be set in order for someone to cope with life. But generally speaking, we need to be careful not to codify a way of life that may exclude the possibility of closeness.
