💬 Meet one of our speakers: Dr. Kristen Stafford who is an infectious disease epidemiologist with 30 years of data systems-focused experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of domestic and international public health programs. She served as the Principal Investigator for the SHIELD project that developed and implemented the National Data Repository in Nigeria, a longitudinal near real-time database of healthcare data for over 1.9 million patients living with HIV used nationally for program evaluation and case-based surveillance. She was also the PI on a multi-state SARS-CoV-2 population-based household seroprevalence survey in Nigeria. The SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence survey used complex survey design methodology to determine the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection and the distribution of symptomatic and asymptomatic infections. Dr. Stafford has spent the last 20 years supporting the development of data systems for public health response in eight sub-Saharan African countries. She is additionally MPI of the INFORM Africa Hub project, part of the DS-I Africa consortium, and the PI of the EPI-PLAN HIV project funded by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to develop a novel cohort model to predict the distribution of HIV prevalence by age and noncommunicable disease burden through 2050 in two sub-Saharan African countries. Dr. Stafford serves as the Deputy Director of the Center for International Health, Education, and Biosecurity at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), providing technical input and supporting surveillance, research, and implementation teams across eight countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
