If you have been diagnosed with cancer, what the hell do you do? Your life suddenly feels like it is ending, you are overwhelmed with doctors visits, scans and tests, and your well meaning friends and family are throwing every bit of advice they can at you. You take refuge under your duvet, it is the only safe and quiet place. But you can't stay there for too long because after all there is a lion chasing you and you need to make a plan.
My advice, as someone who has been through cancer and brutal treatment despite my all-natural dreams and inclinations is as follows:
Stop and acclimatise. The cancer has been in your body for a long time by the time it is diagnosed. Some tumours actually grow so slowly people die WITH cancer in their bodies, they don't die OF cancer. All tumours have different growth rates - the slower your tumour is growing, the less need there is for panic, the more time you have to breathe, collect your nerves and consider your options - CAREFULLY.
Deciding which treatment to take is The Most Important Decision Of Your Life! Conventional doctors (Standard of Care / SOC) will always turn up the heat and try to get you on the table or in the chair as soon as possible. This is the case with everyone I know who is diagnosed. As soon as they know there is a tumour in your body there is a flurry of activity and you're likely to be hooked up to a chemo IV before the week is done.
The thing is, our body CAN and DOES heal itself. Our bodies are miraculous and amazing biological machines. There are many many many different reasons why we get cancer presenting in our body and there are many many different ways we can go about treating this. This is a good time to state that I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice - this is simply what I've learned in my personal journey of cancer, treatment, and healing myself naturally when my cancer recurred.
So my humble advice is as follows:
1) Get a hold on your genetics - do a good genetic test that will tell you where your body is struggling and where it needs support. These reports aren't expensive and shine light on how your body is working and not working. They also indicate what supplements will work for you. In my case I have compromised detox, methylation and cholesterol pathways so I need to make sure I support these - breakdown in these areas lead to cancer.
For a genetic report I recommend speaking to Tandy at Willow Wellness in PE - message me and I'll share her details.
2) Detox Detox Detox - when the body is overwhelmed with toxins, our internal systems start to fail and illness takes hold. If your detox pathways are clogged and your liver is struggling, toxins are going to be running rampant in your body and causing inflammation, oxidative stress and ultimately disease. This is something simple that everyone should be doing regularly. I talk frequently about detoxing and it is the heart of my work with clients. If you do decide to do chemotherapy and radiation, DO A DETOX FIRST. The stronger your body and your liver are going into treatment, the better the ability to handle the treatment will be. If your body isn't strong going into treatment, it will wipe you out. No amount of love and light will make your treatment journey pleasant (trust me on this). Your body needs to be running as strong as it can be.
I am running a 21 Day Detox Awareness Challenge starting on 1 July (early bird price before 15th June is R750) - we cover the whole toxin landscape and I equip you with the ability to protect yourself and make better healthful wholesome choices for your body. If you would more information, post 'detox' in the comments.
3) Fix your gut - our gut is the source of our immune system. Our gut is being wrecked by glyphosate in foods as well as antibiotics, toxins in water, artificial sweeteners, alcohol and more. When our gut is struggling toxins enter the blood stream and our immune system is mobilised to fight these and it cannot do the work it is meant to to keep us healthy. Ensure you are taking a good probiotic and avoiding the toxins that destroy the beneficial bacteria. Eating good fiber rich foods and prebiotics helps the beneficial bacteria.
4) Parasites, heavy metal, candida and mold cleanses - it is essential to do these regularly as we are always exposed to bugs and metals - in our food and water and in the air. Parasites and heavy metals have a symbiotic relationship and many parasites feed off heavy metals. Their f***l matter is highly toxic to our bodies and can accumulate in organs and joints. These have been linked to cancers and other health conditions. Cleanses must always be done very carefully under the guidance of a trained professional who knows how to do this. DM me for more info.
5) Stress reduction is absolutely key, as well as trauma healing. Many people who get cancer have suffered trauma and have not received the necessary healing support. There is a test called the ACE test - Adverse Childhood Events. If you score above 3, you are at risk of illness in your life (I scored a whopping 8!) Seek the support you need - I love breathwork, somatic therapy, meditation and working on my spirituality. Time in nature is also incredibly healing - walk barefoot on the earth, swim in the sea, enjoy the sunshine.
6) Find a good integrative oncologist or natural practitioner to work with. At the same time, learn about your specific cancer. The internet is full of resources. There is a lot of conflicting information out there so keep looking and take what resonates with you. Everyone is different, all cancers are different, and there are many different paths to healing.
7) Make necessary lifestyle changes - to your food, your environment, your consumption habits, remove all the things that cause toxic accumulation and stress.
8) Resource your body with foods and supplements that kill cancer stem cells - there are many and I have posted on these frequently. You are welcome to contact me for more information and also for my programs where I support people in groups and privately to change their lifestyles and to build cancer proof bodies.
The important thing I'm trying to say is don't rush into SOC treatment. Chemotherapy, radiation and surgeries wreck havoc on the body, and in many cases they cause 'secondary cancers' which actually means treatment-induced cancers. They can result in clearing of the cancer but they also hit the body hard and they take down the immune system which is what we need to build up in order to heal the body and enable it to rid the cancer. Take the time you need - I'd recommend taking at least a month - to resource yourself. Resource yourself with information, with nutrition, with strength and then make the decision that you need to.
