👩⚕️ Meet Kwanele Shongwe, a resilient fifth-year MBChB student at the University of Cape Town. Her journey through medical school has been anything but easy. In her first and second years, she faced an illness that tested her physical strength, resilience, and determination. Despite moments of doubt and seemingly insurmountable challenges, Kwanele’s passion for medicine never wavered. Instead of letting her struggles define her, she chose to rise above them.
Now, as she looks back, Kwanele feels gratitude. The hardships she endured have become stepping stones, teaching her resilience, patience, and the value of perseverance. As she moves closer to her goal of becoming a surgeon, she carries with her the lessons learned through adversity. Kwanele knows that the road ahead will demand even more, but she welcomes the challenge. Because she is not just pursuing a career—she is pursuing a calling, one that she has fought for and will never take for granted.
