Fireworks may last only a few seconds, but the damage they cause to your hearing can be permanent.

During New Year celebrations, fireworks often reach 150–170 decibels — far above the safe listening limit of 85 decibels. At these levels, even a single exposure can harm the delicate hair cells inside the inner ear. Once damaged, these cells do not grow back, which is why noise-induced hearing loss is irreversible.

Common signs of noise damage include:
