It's been a year since we lost our beloved Buttonquail Camp. The power of the Palmiet River wrecked havoc and the enormity of the effort required to make good, quite simply, swallowed us whole.
There have been some very sad days over the last year. A sad detox of the beautiful nature Buttonquail has as her treasure, has been the hardest pill to swallow in all honesty.
But nature will nurture, and oh my word it has. Sanity set in and we were forced to start shifting our mindset. Could a wilder Buttonquail, with more nature and less humans work? A place we can visit on foot, when we want and in the right company. Yes, of course it can and that's what we've begun to do.
It's changed so much, the river is wilder, the pine trees are less and the scattered river rocks are beautiful. The fynbos is magnificent and the vistas as wonderful as ever. It's just magical wilderness once again.
So, a few days ago we floated the idea of a trail (walk/run) weekend hosted at Elgin River Lodge , venturing into Buttonquail. Within a few days 50 of our closest friends had signed up. Wow, we couldnt believe it, such joy.
We calling it the Quail Trail. It's going to be an absolute blast and a real celebration of our corner of Elgin. Two days of getting back into Buttonquail's wilderness and a weekend of good times at Elgin River Lodge.
It's going to be a country style jol, lots of fun, trails, water activities, music and high energy. We've even convinced Dan to come and sing us a few anthems.
If you keen to join in this inaugural event please do so by checking out the Quail Trail entry flyer in the Bio above. We've limited the entries to 100 revelers to keep it tidy. That means only 50 left, so be quick...
