'What Is a Food Allergy? 🍽️❓
Some confuse food allergy with food intolerance, but they're different. Food allergy and food intolerances happen when someone reacts to a food that's harmless for most people. They are "hypersensitivity" reactions. Food allergies, however, involve the immune system whereas food intolerances are usually due to difficulties digesting foods. Food allergies are not, therefore, dose dependent like food intolerances. And even a trace exposure may cause a life-threatening reaction in someone with a food allergy. People with food intolerances can often eat small amounts of the food but get symptoms when larger amounts are ingested. A food intolerance can not cause life-threatening reactions.
