As pools open up, please remember: drowning is silent and fast.

Always:
✅ Adult within arm’s reach
✅ No distractions (yes — put the phone down 😊)
✅ Teach kids basic water safety
✅ Keep pools gated & locked

If you want advice on swimming readiness or safety, I’m here to help.

More outdoor time = more injuries. I’ve seen lots of sprains, cuts, and minor fractures already.

Quick reminders:
✅ Closed shoes for climbing & biking
✅ Helmets for scooters & bikes
✅ First-aid kit handy at home

If your child refuses to bear weight, the swelling worsens, or the pain keeps them awake — bring them in for an assessment.

By November, I see so many children in my rooms who are simply exhausted: physically, mentally and emotionally. And honestly… it makes complete sense. We all are this time of year… especially the little ones writing tests and exams 🤗

We’re at the end of a long school year.
Routines are slipping, days are hotter, exams and tests, sports are finishing and everyone is just tired.

Here are signs I often see in little ones this month:
😴 Excess tiredness (even after a good night’s sleep)
😢 More emotional than usual
🤯 Struggling to focus or remember things
🍽️ Pickier eating or smaller appetite
💭 Worrying about school, exams, tests or friendships
😮‍💨 More headaches or tummy aches (often stress-related) but still best to get them checked out

What can help at home?
💛 Prioritise sleep — even 30 minutes earlier can make a difference
🍉 Keep meals light, colourful and hydrating
🌤️ Lots of outdoor play, but balanced with calm downtime
📚 Gentle study sessions, not all-night cramming
🤗 Extra hugs and reassurance - kids feel the pressure too

And remember:
If your child is very anxious, constantly unwell, struggling to cope or showing behaviours that feel “out of character,” please bring them to me. Sometimes exhaustion is just that… but sometimes it needs support.

We’re in the final stretch of the year - let’s help them cross the finish line gently 🌼

World Antibiotic Awareness Week 💊

As a children’s GP, I’d love to use this week to gently remind all parents how important it is to use antibiotics wisely - for our children today and for their great-grandchildren in the future.

🦠 Bacterial vs Viral – What’s the difference?
Not all infections need antibiotics.
• Bacterial infections (like some ear infections, meningitis, UTIs, strep throat or pneumonia) can respond to antibiotics.
• Viral infections (like colds, flu, RSV, most sore throats and tummy bugs) do not get better with antibiotics and children recover beautifully with supportive care if they have no signs of bacterial infection.

💛 Supporting Your Child Through Illness:
When your child has a viral illness, what they often need most is:
• Plenty of fluids
• Rest
• Fever or pain management
• Nasal saline, saline neb and suction for little ones
• Lots of cuddles and time

These measures help them feel better while their immune system does the real work 🦠

💊 Why Antibiotic Stewardship Matters:
Using antibiotics when they’re not needed can cause bacteria to become resistant. That means antibiotics may not work when we truly need them - now or in the future. Responsible use today helps ensure these life-saving medicines remain effective for generations to come.

👩‍⚕️ Trust the Process:
As doctors, we carefully assess when antibiotics are necessary. If we don’t prescribe them, it’s because they won’t help - and might even cause harm. Our goal is always to ensure your child gets the safest, most effective care. Note: Yes sometimes children may develop a secondary bacterial infection during a viral illness and so if the child changes/deteriorates or doesn’t improve book a review/follow up with your doctor. Always trust your gut I say to my parents as you know your child the best!

Together, we can protect the power of antibiotics - for our kids, their future families and our world 🌍

💜 World Prematurity Day 💜

Today we honour the tiniest fighters - the babies who arrived earlier than expected and showed us what true courage looks like.

As a children’s GP and a preemie mom myself, I’ve walked this road personally and professionally. I know the fear, the waiting, the hope… and the incredible strength of these little ones and their families 🤗 it’s never an easy road to walk with multiple ups and downs along the way.

💜 To all the preemie parents: you are brave beyond measure.
💜 To all the preemie babies: you are miracles in motion.
💜 To the NICU teams: thank you for your hands, hearts and healing.

Let’s keep raising awareness, offering support and celebrating every small victory 💜✨

💙 Happy World Diabetes Day! 💙🌍

Today we learn about Diabetes - a condition where the body needs a little extra help to use sugar properly for energy. These little ones need help to get the sugar into the cells and so they require frequent blood sugar testing (which is often owie) and medicine but they are people just like us.

Let’s remember:
✨ Everyone with diabetes can still play, learn, laugh and live full, awesome lives.
✨ Being kind and understanding makes a big difference. Help a friend and cheer them on
✨ Healthy habits - like moving our bodies and choosing good foods - help all of us stay strong.

Let’s spread kindness, awareness and lots of blue today! 💙😊

As a children’s GP and a mother myself, one of the most important pieces of advice I can give is this: “trust your mama gut” ❤️❤️

You know your child better than anyone else. If something doesn’t feel right, even if you can’t put it into words, it’s always worth checking in.

Medicine is powerful — but a mother’s intuition is even more powerful and something I never overlook 💛 The best care happens when both come together. If your gut tells you something isn’t right, please don’t second-guess it - you are your child’s greatest advocate 🌸

With the change of seasons, I’m seeing more little ones with ear infections — especially after spring colds and allergies.

Things to watch for:
👶 Tugging or rubbing ears
😢 Unusual crying or irritability
🌡️ Fever
🧏 Trouble hearing or responding to sounds

If your child seems uncomfortable or the fever won’t settle, it’s time for a check-up. Ear infections are common but can be painful — we’ll help them feel better fast.

Look out for:

Mood swings or irritability

Trouble sleeping

Withdrawal from play or friends

Stomach aches or headaches with no clear cause

Early support matters. Chat to your GP — we can help guide families to the right care. 💛

If your little one has tiny red bumps, itchy spots, or fussiness after playing outside, it might be heat rash.

👕 Dress in loose, cool cotton
💧 Keep them hydrated
🌬️ Use a fan or cool cloth to soothe irritation

Persistent rash or signs of infection? Time to see the GP.
