The nervous system has become a big conversation, especially as we’ve started to understand trauma and anxiety more deeply.
But everything we experience: anxiety, overwhelm, fear, lives in the body.
And more specifically, in the nervous system.
So the question becomes:
If God designed our bodies… what does regulation actually look like?
When we look at Jesus Christ, we see a powerful model.
There’s a moment in Scripture (Matthew 8:23- 27) where He is asleep on a boat during a storm.
The disciples panic.
They fear for their lives.
Their bodies are in full survival mode.
But Jesus?
He is calm and recognizes their lack of faith.
He wakes, assesses the situation, speaks to the wind and the sea, the source of the disturbance and the storm settles.
Then He turns to the disciples.
Notice this:
He doesn’t react from the panic.
He doesn’t match their fear.
He brings regulation first then addresses them.
This is a picture of authority + nervous system regulation.

So how do we apply this?
Before reacting:
Pause.
Breathe.
Assess what is actually happening.
Ask yourself:
What is the real source of this activation?
Then respond from groundedness not panic.
Because peace isn’t the absence of storms.
It’s the ability to remain anchored within them.

Learning how to move from reaction → regulation → God-led response.
