Quite often people do not know how to tell the difference between a stroke and a heart attack. Applying FAST can help minimize the impact of a stroke. Remember: FAST! Does the FACE droop to one side, ARM weakness - struggles to lift the arm to shoulder height, SLURRED SPEECH - speech is slurred and unclear, TIME to call 112 and ask for an ambulance.

Any person signing up to join the Red Cross as a member in the Nelson Mandela Metro will automatically qualify for free CPR and Stroke Management training (Usually R380 per person). Membership costs R100 for adults, R80 for those receiving a grant and R50 for children and youth under 30 years. Members join as a sign of support for humanitarian work and are not necessarily active!

On average 1480 people drown in South Africa annually. Being a coastal area, residents of the Nelson Mandela Metro are more vulnerable than others! Children often get into trouble, playing in water, dams and ponds. This also leads to fatalities. Did you know that some children can even get into difficulty and drown from falling into a bucket? Please, please, please share this page - we need people to sign up for CPR and Stroke Management training so we can save more lives!
