As a result of advanced surgical and anaesthetic technologies, more than 60% of all surgical interventions can be performed on a same-day basis in day hospitals. Day hospitals are modern, compact and equipped and staffed to render same-day procedures efficiently, with a strong focus on the quality of surgical outcomes at extremely competitive rates for patients and medical schemes. All day-hospital developments are based on the company’s business model, in terms of which facilities are developed in partnership with participating medical practitioners to ensure that medical quality and technology objectives are met, with Advanced adding value by concentrating on overall management, staff and increased efficiencies through central services such as information technology and accounting services.

🌟 Meet Dr. Joseph Gugulethu Mhlanga 🌟

We’re proud to have Dr. Mhlanga, a Specialist in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery, as part of the Advanced East Rand.
With over a decade of experience, he serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, Co-Chair of the Head & Neck Oncology Team at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, and an Evaluator for the Health Professionals Council of Namibia.

Dr. Mhlanga has trained and practised at leading institutions, including the University of Witwatersrand and Groote Schuur Hospital, and has been serving patients in Gauteng since 2021.

Dedicated, skilled, and compassionate, Dr. Mhlanga is committed to delivering excellence in patient care.

Dr Ulrich J Cronjé is a General Surgeon whose path into medicine was shaped early in life, growing up in a home where both parents were accomplished medical specialists. From this foundation, he developed a deep respect for expertise, empathy, and the value of patient-centred care.
Known for his personalised, patient-first approach, Dr. Cronjé is dedicated to supporting individuals through their surgical care with clarity and compassion.
He completed his undergraduate medical studies at the University of the Free State before specialising in surgery at Stellenbosch University, where he received advanced training in surgical techniques and holistic patient care.

By blending technical skill with empathy, attentiveness, and integrity, Dr Cronjé ensures that each patient feels informed, supported, and confident in their treatment journey. His special interest lies in Endocrine Surgery, where he combines surgical expertise with a commitment to improving his patients’ long-term health and quality of life.

🌠 🚲 A delightfully young and inspiring 85-year-old visits Advanced Harbour Bay. 🌠 🚲

Last week, our team at Harbour Bay had the incredible privilege of meeting Olga Basson. She has completed more Cape Town Cycle Tours (Argus’s) than any other woman. Only 23 men have competed in more Argus races than she has. This wonder woman is a keen horse rider who decided to do her first Cycle Tour in 1979 at the age of 39. After a 5-year break, her next race was in 1984, and she has participated every year since then (except the one that was cancelled). In the last 5 races, she competed as an octogenarian!

For years, she has been the nursing sister every patient remembers with warmth and gratitude.
