Are You Choosing the Right Parasite Protection for Your Pet?

When it comes to protecting your dog or cat from parasites, the right choice is not always as simple as it seems. Let’s break it down:

The most important factor is not your pet’s coat colour or just their age — it’s their lifestyle.
Where they go, who they interact with, and the environment they live in all play a major role in their risk of parasite exposure.

For example, dogs that enjoy walks in parks, open fields, or rural areas are at a higher risk of picking up both internal and external parasites. Contact with tall grass, soil, and even farm animals increases exposure significantly.

And what about indoor cats?
It is a common misconception that they are completely safe. In reality, parasites can still find their way into your home through clothing, shoes, or even other visiting animals. This means indoor cats may still need protection.

So, who should guide your decision?
While advice from friends or social media may be well-meaning, the best person to consult is your veterinarian. They will assess your pet’s age, lifestyle, environment, and level of exposure to recommend the most suitable parasite treatment.

Every pet is different.
And effective protection starts with understanding their unique needs.

The importance of proper teeth brushing 🦷🐶🐱 for dogs and cats

Did you know that many dogs and cats can develop dental problems from the age of 3? Plaque and tartar not only cause bad breath, they can also seriously affect their health. That’s why teeth brushing is a very important part of their daily care 💛

We’ll tell you why and how to do it 👇

✅ Start slowly
If your pet has never had their teeth brushed before, start gradually: let them sniff the brush and taste the toothpaste, and begin by gently cleaning just a few teeth at a time.

✅ Choose quiet moments
Do it when they’re relaxed and associate brushing with something positive, such as a cuddle or a small treat afterwards.

✅ Consistency makes all the difference
Ideally, brush their teeth several times a week, or even daily if your pet tolerates it well.

✅ Always use products specifically designed for pets
Never use human toothpaste. Toothpastes for dogs and cats are formulated to be safe if swallowed and usually come in flavours they find more pleasant.

✅ What can happen if we don’t look after their oral hygiene?
• Persistent bad breath
• Tartar build-up
• Gum inflammation (gingivitis)
• Pain when eating
• Tooth loss
• Even infections that can affect other organs

💛 A small gesture that prevents many problems
With a simple routine and regular vet check-ups, we can help ensure our furry friends have a healthy mouth throughout their lives.

Breed of the Month: The Khao Manee Cat

Not all cat breeds are equally well-known, so today we’re sharing some interesting facts about one you might not be so familiar with. Have you heard of the Khao Manee? Read on to find out more about this very special cat! ⬇️

🐱 A breed with a royal history
The Khao Manee originates from Thailand and for centuries was considered a royal cat. It is said to have lived in palaces and to have been a symbol of good luck.

🐱 Their eyes are their defining feature
Many Khao Manees have heterochromia, meaning each eye is a different colour (for example, one blue and the other green or amber). This has earned them the nickname ‘diamond-eyed cats’.

🐱 A gleaming white coat
Their coat is short, smooth and completely white, which further highlights the colour of their eyes and gives them an elegant and very striking appearance.

🐱 Very sociable and communicative
They are known for being very affectionate, curious and vocal. They love interacting with their human family and getting involved in what’s going on at home.

Khao Manee quick facts:

🌍 Country of origin: Thailand

World Cushing’s Syndrome Day 🩺🐾

The name might sound complicated, but Cushing’s syndrome (hyperadrenocorticism) is a relatively common hormonal condition in dogs, particularly as they get older.

Detecting it early can make a huge difference to their wellbeing 💛
Here’s what you need to know 👇

🔎 1. What exactly is it?
It occurs when the body produces an excess of cortisol, a key hormone in metabolism and the stress response. When uncontrolled, it affects multiple systems in the body.

🐶 2. More common in adult dogs
Although it can also occur in cats, it is much more common in middle-aged or senior dogs.

💧 3. Increased thirst and urination
One of the most characteristic signs: your dog drinks more water than usual and needs to urinate more frequently.

🍽️ 4. Increased appetite
It’s common to notice that they’re hungrier, even if they were already eating well before.

🐾 5. Visible physical changes
The body also gives clear signs:
• Distended abdomen (“pot belly”)
• Hair loss
• Thinner, more fragile skin
• Weakness or reduced activity

🩺 6. Veterinary diagnosis is essential
Cushing’s cannot be confirmed by symptoms alone. It requires specific hormone tests and professional monitoring.

💛 7. With management, there is quality of life
Although it is a chronic condition, with the right treatment many dogs can lead a long and comfortable life.

✨ Your pet cannot tell you what is wrong, but its body does speak.
Spotting small changes is key to acting in time and looking after its health.

Happy Easter to you and your furry friends!

Easter is a time for celebration, family, and a little indulgence, but while you are enjoying the treats, it is important to keep your pets safe too.

A few simple tips for a safe and happy Easter:

No chocolate or sweets
Even small amounts of chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats. Keep Easter eggs and treats well out of reach.

Beware of lilies
These beautiful flowers are extremely toxic to cats, even if they only lick the pollen. Choose pet-safe blooms if you have curious kitties at home.

Skip the fake grass
Plastic Easter grass may look festive, but if swallowed, it can cause serious digestive blockages. Shredded paper is a much safer alternative.

Supervise egg hunts
Whether real or plastic, make sure all eggs are accounted for. Dogs have an excellent sense of smell and may find hidden eggs long after the hunt is over.

Include your pets in the fun
Create a pet-safe Easter basket filled with treats, toys, and plenty of love so they can join in safely.

Enjoy a joyful, safe Easter with your furry best friends.

5 hidden dangers in the home for dogs and cats

Our home is a safe haven for our dogs and cats, but sometimes, without us realising it, it can also harbour small dangers for them. You may not have thought about it – or perhaps you have! – but just in case, we’d like to highlight some of the most common dangers; it’s important to avoid any nasty surprises!

🔺 Plants that can be toxic
If, as well as pets, you love plants, it’s important to check which ones are toxic to dogs and cats before leaving them within their reach. Some plants, such as poinsettias, azaleas or lilies, can be life-threatening to our best friends, so be very careful!

🔺 Foods they should never eat
A moment’s inattention in the kitchen or at the table can be dangerous for dogs and cats, especially with foods such as chocolate, onions, garlic or grapes.

🔺 Small or easily swallowed objects
Threads, hair ties, small toys or bits of plastic can end up being swallowed, especially by curious cats or playful dogs.

🔺 Cleaning products
Home hygiene is essential, but keep all products, such as detergents, bleach or disinfectants, out of reach of dogs and cats. Licking or ingesting these products can have serious consequences.

🔺 Unprotected windows or balconies
Especially in the case of cats, falls from windows or terraces can cause serious injuries. It’s not about not opening the windows, but about doing so safely for our feline companions, for example with safety nets or similar structures.

Our dogs and cats are naturally curious, so checking their surroundings and preventing these risks will be key to ensuring they can explore and play at home with complete peace of mind.

Could the problem be hiding in your home?

Parasites are not always where you think they are. Many spend a large part of their life cycle in your pet’s environment, not just on your pet.

Let’s break it down:

Where do parasite eggs and larvae hide?
Not only in your pet’s fur. They are commonly found in carpets, bedding, sofas, and household textiles. Your home can quietly become the perfect breeding ground.

If your pet has fleas, what should you treat?
It is not enough to treat only your dog or cat. Effective control means treating both your pet and the home environment to eliminate eggs and larvae.

Do parasites disappear in winter?
No. Indoor environments allow parasites to survive and continue their life cycle year-round. Seasonal changes do not eliminate the risk.

How do you prevent infestations?
A complete approach works best:
• Regular parasite protection for your pet
• Frequent cleaning of beds and blankets
• Thorough vacuuming of carpets and furniture

Consistent prevention and good hygiene protect both your pet and your home.

Ever feel like your dog is talking to you… just without words? 🐶💬
Spoiler: they kind of are.

Barking isn’t “bad behavior”, it’s communication. Here’s what your dog might be trying to tell you 👇

🔔 “Hey, something’s happening!”
Barking at the door, the window, or unfamiliar noises is often your dog’s way of alerting you. Totally normal.

🎉 “I’m excited!”
High-pitched, fast barking usually means happiness or anticipation (think walks, food, or seeing their favorite human).

😟 “I’m stressed or scared”
If the barking sounds intense or nonstop, your dog may be feeling anxious, bored, or overwhelmed.

🧍‍♂️ “I need attention”
Yes, sometimes it’s that simple. Dogs bark to say: play with me, don’t ignore me, or I’m lonely.

🛑 “Back off”
Deep, serious barking can be a warning. Your dog might be uncomfortable and asking for space.

👉 The key? Context.
Look at what’s happening around them, their body language, and when the barking starts.

Your dog is always communicating. Learning to listen makes your bond even stronger.

Question for you: When does your dog bark the most? At the door, when you leave, or just for fun?

SIGNS YOUR BEST FRIEND MAY HAVE KIDNEY PROBLEMS
Kidney disease is one of the most common, yet often overlooked, health issues in dogs and cats. The challenge? The signs can be subtle at first… and easy to miss.

Knowing what to look for can make all the difference.

If your pet shows any of the following signs, it could indicate a kidney problem:
• Unexplained weight loss
• Reduced or loss of appetite
• Dehydration
• Vomiting or constipation
• Lethargy, weakness, or depression
• Anaemia (pale gums, low energy)
• Bad breath (halitosis)
• Oral ulcers or sores in the mouth
• Increased thirst
• Increased urination
• High blood pressure

These symptoms often develop gradually, which is why early detection is so important. Left untreated, kidney disease can significantly affect your pet’s quality of life.

Regular check-ups, blood tests, and monitoring your pet’s daily habits can help detect problems early and allow for better management.

Support matters. Ask your vet about options like Pronefra®, designed to help support kidney function and improve quality of life in pets diagnosed with kidney disease.

Your pet cannot tell you when something is wrong — but the signs are there if you know what to look for.
