🦴 Joint Disease Signs: Instability (3/3)
Instability is the feeling that you can’t fully trust your joint, whether walking, climbing stairs, or lifting objects.

This sensation is commonly caused by ligament or meniscus injuries, or advanced cartilage and bone loss, leading to a joint that feels weak or unreliable.

If your joint feels unstable, early assessment can help prevent further damage and restore confidence in movement.

🦴 Joint Disease Signs: Deformity

Joint deformity can develop after injury or due to degenerative joint disease.

This may occur when damaged ligaments, meniscus, or worn cartilage cause the joint to shift or collapse into an abnormal position.

Changes in joint shape or alignment are important signs that shouldn’t be ignored and often reflect underlying structural damage.

🦴 Joint Disease Signs: Pain & Mechanical Symptoms (1/3)

Pain is often the first sign patients notice with joint injury or joint disease but it’s not the only one.

Mechanical symptoms like clicking, snapping, grinding, or even a joint that locks in place can indicate underlying damage within the joint. If your joint feels noisy, stiff, or gets stuck, it may be time to have it assessed.

Early diagnosis can make a big difference in long-term joint health.

"Discover the Key Components of a Successful Total Knee Replacement Procedure"

A total knee replacement is made up of essentially three components. The first is the femoral component or femoral cap. The second is the tibial component or base plate which fits into the tibia. And the third is the polyethylene liner which fits onto the top of the tibial base plate.

14/03/2024

A total knee replacement is done via an incision on the frontal or anterior aspect of the knee joint. Special cutting guides are used in order to machine and cut the bones to accept the total knee prosthesis. The tibial component is cut flush and has certain drill holes to allow acceptance of the tibial base plate.

Today I want to share with you the amazing advancements in knee replacement surgery. As someone who has personally experienced the pain and limitations of knee problems, I understand the struggles and challenges that come with it. That is why I am so excited to tell you about the femoral cap and polyethylene liner, two crucial components in knee replacement surgery.

The femoral cap is carefully inserted onto the femur, providing a smooth surface for the knee joint to move on. This not only helps with the overall stability of the joint, but also allows for a more natural range of motion. And let me tell you, having a natural range of motion is truly life-changing. It means being able to walk, run, and even dance without feeling any discomfort or limitations.

But that's not all, the polyethylene or plastic liner is also a key player in this surgery. It is inserted onto the tibia, acting as a cushion between the femoral cap and the tibia. This helps reduce friction and wear on the joint, resulting in a longer lifespan for the implant. Plus, with various sizes available, doctors can choose the perfect fit for each individual, ensuring optimal comfort and functionality.

Now, I know surgery can be scary and overwhelming, but let me reassure you that the knee joint is thoroughly tested after all the components are in place. This is to ensure that the joint is stable and has a full range of motion. The last thing anyone wants is to go through a surgery and still have limitations afterwards. But with this advanced technique, you can rest assured that you will have a strong and functional knee joint.

I am grateful to live in a time where medical advancements are constantly being made to improve our quality of life. Knee replacement surgery has come a long way and I am excited to see where it will go in the future. So for those of you struggling with knee problems, know that there is hope and a better quality of life waiting for you.

Take care of your knees, they are valuable and deserve the best treatment. And always remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
