7 Simple ways to reset your nervous system as a mom

Sometimes the overwhelm builds so slowly you barely notice it.

You keep going.
Looking after everyone.
Holding everything together.

But inside your body feels tense, wired, and exhausted.

Often this is not about being incapable.
It is simply your nervous system carrying too much stress for too long.

Here are a few simple ways to help your nervous system settle:

• Take 5 slow breaths (inhale 4 seconds, exhale 6 seconds)
• Name what you’re feeling – “Name it to tame it”
• Hum or sing
• Try the Butterfly Hug
• Put your legs up the wall
• Go for a short walk
• Reach out to someone

Small resets can make a real difference.

Save this post for the days when life feels overwhelming.

If you’d like a few more simple tools to calm your nervous system, comment RESET and I’ll send you my Mini Nervous System Reset Guide.

Burnout doesn’t always mean you need more sleep.

Often it means something in the way you’ve been doing life needs to shift.

Recovery usually starts with three things:
recognising burnout, reversing some of the pressure, and building resilience again.

Not stopping everything.
But learning to carry life in a way that honours you too.

If this spoke to you, comment RESET and I’ll send you my Mini Nervous System Reset Guide.

Burnout recovery doesn’t start where most mums think.

Most advice focuses on rest.

Rest matters. But many mums discover that even when they finally sit down, their body still feels wired, tense, or unable to properly switch off.

That’s because burnout doesn’t just affect your thoughts.
It affects your nervous system.

When the body has been under pressure for a long time, it can stay stuck in a constant state of alert. Learning how to calm and regulate the nervous system helps signal safety to the body again.

This is often one of the first places recovery begins.

That’s exactly why I created my Mini Nervous System Reset Guide - a simple guide with three quick practices that help busy mums calm their nervous system and bring their body back toward a state of rest.

If this spoke to you, comment RESET and I’ll send you the guide.

Why so many good mums feel like they’re failing.

You can love your children deeply
and still feel completely overwhelmed by motherhood.

You’re expected to be patient, organised, emotionally available, present, calm, and grateful… all at the same time.

You carry the school logistics.
The emotional temperature of the home.
The invisible planning that keeps everyone’s lives running.

And when something slips?

You blame yourself.

But many mums aren’t failing.

They’re carrying an invisible mental and emotional load that no one really sees.

When one person holds everything together for long enough, the nervous system eventually says: this is too much.

That’s not weakness.
That’s burnout.

If this spoke to you, comment RESET and I’ll send you the Nervous System Reset Guide I share with overwhelmed mums.

7 things mums think are normal…
but can actually be signs of burnout.

Snapping and replaying the moment at night.
Waking up exhausted.
Feeling touched out.
Brain fog.
Struggling to truly rest.
Losing interest in things you used to enjoy.
Mentally checking out.

Many mums assume this is just part of motherhood.

But it can also be a signal that your nervous system has been under constant pressure.

Follow for insight and practical tools that support real mum life.

Why do I wake up anxious for no reason?

Sometimes your body wakes up already in fight or flight mode, even if nothing stressful has happened yet.

During sleep your brain processes stress. If your nervous system is on high alert, you can wake with racing thoughts, a pounding heart, and a sense of dread.

Three things that can help:
• Breathe – slow breathing calms the nervous system.
• Move – a short walk or stretch helps release stress hormones.
• Review and release – notice the thoughts looping and remind yourself you don’t have to believe every thought you think.

You are not your thoughts.

The truth about mum guilt.

Many mums carry guilt because they care deeply about the kind of parent they want to be.

If you find yourself replaying the day, questioning your tone, or wondering if you handled something badly, you are not alone.

The truth that no one talks about when it comes to overstimulation as a mum.

Motherhood makes your brain more alert to noise, needs, and pressure. Your threat system becomes more sensitive, so you notice everything faster and stay switched on.

That is why small things feel big. It is not you being moody. It is your nervous system needing a moment to reset.
