Did you know that Pilates is not only an incredible form of movement when practiced on its own, but it also forms an amazing addition to any already established workout routine?

It helps to correct muscle imbalances in the body that affect our posture, creating tension in areas like the lower back, it increases flexibility it places that are commonly tight such as the hamstrings that creates further imbalances and sometimes even injury!

Pilates is also a mind-body exercise. A lot of focus is placed on the breath and learning to breathe correctly and efficiently which in turn calms the mind and the nervous system allowing you to leave classes not only feeling strong but also relaxed.

Happy Women's Day! 🌸 I had the absolute pleasure of hosting a Yoga class in honour or Women's Day, to the incredible, courageous, inspiring Women of the South African Navy. Listening to their stories and accomplishments and sharing in their energy for the morning was such a blessing and I'm so thankful to have been asked to guide them through a mindful practice to fill their cups.
I hope you all have the most amazing day and feel appreciated and are reminded that you deserve all the love and kindness the world has to offer πŸ’–

Wondering why you should be practicing Pilates?? Let me fill you in! πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ
Pilates is a form of functional exercise, meaning it works with movements that strengthen the entire body to make daily movements easier, I.e sitting and standing up, bending to pick things up, reaching for things, twisting etc. as well as correcting muscle imbalances to improve poor posture. It's also a buildable form of exercise so your practice essentially depends on where you are in your body, starting from the beginner sequence gradually building flexibility and strength in order to be able to level up your movements and make your way to the more advanced variations of each exercise. So the more effort you put in the faster you'll progress 😌 Pilates also teaches us how to breathe correctly (who knew that was a thing??) and to be able to control our flow of breath and the pace of our movements to get the maximum benefit out of your class. Pilates is also a mind-body exercise. By focusing on slow controlled breaths, and having to concentrate on our movements, we naturally find the mind becomes quiet, our nervous system calmed, and you can leave the class feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and accomplished! Day 30 It's the last day of April and of this challenge that I decided to start very suddenly on like the last day of March πŸ˜‚ maybe not my finest moment but that's okay. This challenge has taught me a lot... I've always known that I'm not much of a social media person, if I post twice a month it's a lot 🫣 so it was a challenge to not only post every day but also find things I'm grateful for... and that feels wrong to say because I know I have so much to be grateful for but it really proved harder than expected to not always say the same 5 big things that would always come to mind. It forced me to be more present, to pay attention to the good and not just the bad. This is something I am actively working on and this challenge showed me I still have a long way to go although I am grateful for how far I've come. I would really love to do more challenges in the future, that anyone can do whenever they stumble upon it to help them reconnect and re-centre, with a little more prep 🀭 with all that being said, I am so grateful for the moment I'm in right now that feels a little bit like the calm before the storm. I've spent the last year approximately, working my way through a Pilates training, learning as much as I can, to be able to expand and transform COGA, which has become with Chelsey. And with this is coming some really exciting but terrifying changes(in a good way πŸ˜‚). And I'm so grateful to the people who have been helping me and guiding me along to make this possible. I'm so excited and scared but so grateful 🀭🌸 Here's to a new month ✨
