The MS hug is a very common symptom of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This happens when a
person feels tight, squeezing, or pressure-like sensation around their chest or
torso. This feeling is caused by damage to nerves caused by MS and these results
in mixed signals and unusual sensations.
Some describe it as if a band tightly wrapped around the body. The MS hug can vary in
intensity for different individuals. Sometimes it’s just mildly uncomfortable but other
times it can be quite painful.
The MS hug is not dangerous but can be distressing and may affect everyday activities. The sensation may last only a short time or persist for hours or even days. Treatment for this usually focuses on easing nerve pain and helping the person relax.
