Did you know men get breast cancer too and it’s more serious than most people realise?

Although male breast cancer makes up less than 1% of all breast cancer cases, by 2025, about 2,800 men in the U.S. will be newly diagnosed.

That’s roughly a 1 in 700–800 lifetime risk.

Because it’s so rare, men often don’t recognise the symptoms (like lumps, ni**le changes, or swelling), which can lead to later diagnoses and unfortunately, worse outcomes.

But there’s another hidden risk: lymphoedema. Treatment for breast cancer (especially when lymph nodes are removed or irradiated) disrupts the lymphatic system, which can lead to chronic swelling.

Why the wrong compression garment won’t help your oedema.

Wearing a compression garment that’s too tight, the wrong fit, or the wrong fabric is like trying to fix a leaky pipe with duct tape—it may look like you’re doing something, but it doesn’t solve the problem.

Here’s why:

Wrong size = wrong pressure

Compression works by applying graduated pressure (tighter at the ankle, less at the thigh) to push fluid upward.

Poor fit causes damage - Stockings that dig in or wrinkle create pressure points that can lead to pain, skin irritation, or even ulcers.

Wrong fabric or texture reduces effectiveness - Medical compression is specially engineered for precise, controlled pressure.
