Matthew 5:33-37
Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said to your🙏🕊️ ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the Evil One.”
COMMENTARY/REFLECTIONS
It is a saying, more talk more mistakes. While sometimes we have to explain further and to elaborate things for people to understand better, few but precise words are enough to understand and accept our words when they know that we are truthful person. While when a person is known to be a liar and without word of honor, it’s takes showing proof and evidence before one will win the heart and believe our words.
When people know we are man of words and action, truthful and trustworthy, they easily believe with every thing that we say or promise. There’s no need for oath-taking, our word of honour is sufficient guarantee. Sometimes oath taking is necessary for people to believe and to prove the truthfulness of our words, our pledges and promises. Accepting correction is a sign of being sincere and truthful in everything we say. While lies and deceit hides the truth.
The truth will set us free. When we hide the truth, there’s the tendency that we will feel uneasy like being imprisoned and worrisome with guilty feeling. We have to keep our words and fulfil our obligations freely and responsibly before God and man.
People can count on us when they know we are truthful, loyal and sincere.
🙏 Jesus is truth Himself, the way and life. To be truthful is to be one with Jesus.
🙏🕊️Our prayer, “ lord, grant us the grace and help to always speak the truth without regard of human respect an
