[PICS]Before the rainy weather, our Breast Clinic was out on the front lawn earlier, hosting an event to raise awareness about breast cancer. The mood was lively as staff marked the day with not only important education related to breast cancer, but also by promoting wellness through aerobics sessions. The public was reminded that signs of breast cancer can include a painless lump, changes in breast size or appearance, skin dimpling or redness, changes in the ni**le, and abnormal or bloody discharge from the ni**le.
To be helped by us, you first need to obtain a referral letter from your local clinic before coming to the Breast Clinic, which operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. An examination, during which a healthcare professional checks the breasts for any unusual changes, will be conducted. If necessary, a patient will be referred for a mammogram. If the initial screening raises concerns, a follow-up mammogram may be performed.
Additional imaging, such as a breast ultrasound or breast MRI, can provide more detailed information about any abnormalities. If a suspicious lump is found, a biopsy will be performed. If cancer is diagnosed, further tests, such as blood work, a MUGA scan, and organ function tests, may be required to determine the stage of the disease. Not all patients will need every test; the team will select the most appropriate ones based on individual circumstances.
