Ossewa Trail Run, is an exciting two-day trail running race situated at the foot of the Kerkenberg Mountains and... our local 18-year old superstar athlete, Travis Brigg, won it!
This is what Travis had to say about the race which took place this weekend covering 21km on day one and 13kms on day two.
“Day one was extremely misty, and you couldn’t see anything further than three metres in front of you, so navigating the route on the top of the mountain was difficult! I ran the whole of day one with my brother, Calvin. We gave encouragement and drove each other to cross the finish line together in joint 1st place.”
“After the day one run there was live music and a massive bonfire, so recovery was relaxing and enjoyable. Then day two arrived. It wasn’t as cold but there was still a chilly breeze. I decided that I was going to race as hard as I could. The first 3.5km was all on farm dirt roads, but it was very muddy. We then went into the nearby nature reserve and started a small climb to the top of the plateau. What an incredible view it was from up there. You could see everything!”
“The trails were even more muddy than the road so it was inevitable that my shoes would get wet. The last 3.5km was back on the dirt road and I flew back to the finish, beating second place by just over 2min in a time of 52:36. What an incredible race. I felt so strong the entire way.”
The team at Debbie Cameron Physiotherapy are extremely proud of Travis and look forward to following his running career which promises to be an exciting journey.
Well done to both Travis and Calvin!
