THE EXECUTIVE MAYOR CLLR BAHULA APPRECIATES HON PREMIER DR PHOPHI RAMATHUBA FOR HONOURING BAKWENA BA MATSEPE
The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Minah Bahula, joined Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba for the official handover of a state-of-the-art Traditional Council Office to the Bakwena ba Matsepe Traditional Authority in Ga-Matsepe, Tafelkop.
The project is commissioned by the Limpopo Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) under the leadership of MEC Rodgers Basikopo Makamu. The new facility includes a spacious boardrooms, Kgoši’s office, social worker’s office, and cleaners’ rooms amongst others, bringing dignity and operational capacity to the traditional authority.
However, the Department of Public Works, led by MEC Enerst Rachoene, serves as the implementing agent for the construction of traditional offices across the province.
The event was attended by several traditional leaders, including representatives from the Local House of Traditional Leaders and Khoisan leadership structures led by Kgoši Rammupudu, “Phaahla a Monare”.
Kgošigadi Matsepe-Kopa Lehlake, “Mologadi a Ngwato of the Bakwena ba Matsepe” expressed gratitude:
“From organising our council meetings under trees, we really are honoured today as Bakwena. The office will restore dignity and have a lasting impact on our communities.”
Executive Mayor Cllr Bahula praised the Premier for her continued support of Sekhukhune:
“From hosting the Provincial Heritage Day in Tšate, Mohlaletse last week, to today’s handover of this facility in Elias Motsoaledi Municipality , the Premier continues to honour our communities and traditional leaders. We are truly grateful for her leadership and the building as well as handing over of these offices”.
The Executive Mayor is considering establishing a satellite office within the same facility, in consultation with the traditional authority, to bring services closer to the community.
Meanwhile, The Premier and the Executive Mayor also took the opportunity to participate in the planting of trees as part of the nationwide campaign by the department of Forestry and Fisheries and Environment ( DFFE) to plant 1 million heritage trees which mobilises communities to confront climate change through greening and achieve environmental sustainability.
