One to change a few. A few to change many. Many to change the world. Starts with one. - Anonymous

Our story begins with a mom and a daughter who had a dream to change the world, a "miniature" piggy called Ziggy and a saved slaughter hen, Suzanne, who turned out to be a Rooster, now called Sebastian. We have always loved animals and after Ziggy came to live with us, we started realizing that there is no such thing as humane slaughter and that all animals deserve to live. We realized that if we argued that it is a personal choice, we would be leaving someone out of the equation. After doing extensive research on the subject, we discovered that we did not need any animal products to be able to live a healthy, happy and completely guilt free life, by simply following a plant based diet. We started off our journey as Pescetarians, finding it difficult to not occasionally indulge in eating sushi. After realizing what happens in the fishing industry and how these awesome beings living under water are killed and maimed, we moved towards a vegetarian diet. We consoled ourselves to the fact that we were lucky to be able to drink milk from a dairy where the calf share in the bounty and stays with the mom for three months until weened and that our eggs were collected on a farm across the road, from free walking foraging hens. After listening to an extremely interesting talk on Veganism by Martin Dingle-Wall, and Australian actor about his journey towards veganism, we both realized that to be true to ourselves and our beliefs, we needed to make the change - And the penny had dropped!! I decided to sell my Ethical Eatery, as I could no longer feel at peace by earning an income that ensured suffering and death to some animals, even sourced from ethical farmers and as humanely as possible. I love to cook and for the past few years, I have created dishes on instinct only, as I couldn't get myself to taste sauces/dishes that contained animal products. I decided that the time was right and the public was ready to accept a plant based restaurant in our little seaside town. We took a leap of faith by opening a 100% plant based restaurant called ELL269. The name stands for Eat Love Life and 269 for the internationally recognized code for veganism, a movement started by animal activist Sasha Boojor. Calf 269 is a male calf (still alive today) who was rescued by anonymous activists, days before his planned slaughter. ELL269 offered deliciously prepared dishes, aimed to please any pallet, win a few followers and change the mindset of needing flesh, milk and eggs to survive. We sourced produce from local farmers that promote organic, hormone free produce. Further we aimed to offer people with allergies like gluten or lactose intolerance, illnesses like diabetes etc a myriad of options to enjoy without feeling like the odd one out. The chapter of ELL269 based in Hermanus at the Carriages building has come to an end and like a true Phoenix rising from the ashes, a beautiful new chapter has been written with ELL on Wheels (thanks Rohan!!!) as the new venture. And so the story about the mother, a daughter, a pig and a chicken goes to a new level where life shall be explored in all it's beauty on wheels, living like the true Gypsy she is in her heart, travelling the countryside exploring new ideas and meeting new people, joining hearts and lives with vegan street food, markets, food and wine pairings and pop-ups.a chapter where we shall experience life on the move exploring interesting locations, and offering education in different towns. It is time to bring out the travelling spirit and take the love for good food and all things nice to the people - we are on the move!!! This evening, Mother Nature showed us her power with a tremendous display of thunder and lightning. I had the distinct feeling that l need to replicate this extraordinary storm with a dish made from ingredients that are currently abundant in our local gardens in Greyton and Genadendal. Therefore, this Wednesday's offer will be a rich and flavorful Aloo Baingan, made from potatoes, aubergine, spinach, tomatoes, fresh locally sourced curry leaves and chillies, all currently for sale at Marshall's organic veggie stand. This comforting dish will be served with fluffy rice, pickled onions, and fresh lemon. Please place your orders before Tuesday 8 April by 4pm. I shall have the food ready to be collected at the Wednesday market from Marshall's stand. Dishes: R65/portion. Contact Norah Hudson - 07 927 46519

25 years and it feels like yesterday...... l run the day through in my head and wonder what l could have done differently. Now, in my more mature years, l wish we had known each other now- when we could understand each other better and the issues of living wasn't what drove us, when we had time to sort through the muck and sifted out the diamonds. I wish you could see your beautiful daughter, standing tall, accomplished and with her soulmate- a beautiful being we created. I wish..... but it was not to be.... l remain on my own, happy, at peace, knowing l once loved deeply, and that was enough. Greg, you are gone, but you are certainly not forgotten. πŸ™πŸŒ±β€οΈπŸ’«πŸ’₯⭐️

is booming in Greyton!!
On Wednesday evenings hosts an open mic where anyone who wants to show their talent can perform.
We ordered all the amazing dishes the restaurant had specially designed to celebrate this vegan week.
What a spread!!
* The were the best l've had to date, crispy light batter enveloping a slightly fiery Chilli, oozing with cheese, served up with a sweet chili sauce.
* Nachos, covered with melted cheese, served with guacamole and tomato salsa- what a tasty delight!
* Now Mornay is known for his burgers and house made basting sauce- what a delight! Juicy meaty burger with a delicious basting, served with perfect fried and a divine Greek salad, creamy dreamy feta included!!
* I had the cheese added and it was soft, adding a perfect cheddar tang to my burger.
Also ordered at our table were the two options of Enchilada- l am not sure how to choose a favorite!
* the chicken strips were basted with olive oil and garlic and topped with pineapple- what a delicious combo!
* the spinach feta and mushroom options delivered on a juicy savory mouthful and were truly spectacular.

Not only were the food top notch, the live entertainment and fair prices of the beverages made it an extravaganza galore!

If you decide to vist the restaurant over the next couple of days, go mad and enjoy- for the following morning, especially if you had perhaps over indulged in the merriment all around, head to theory sister restaurant and enjoy the bean and scramble breaking (it actually mentions "hangover" on the menu!! πŸ˜‚πŸ™ŒπŸ₯°πŸŒ±

When traditionally meat based restaurants go out of their way and completely out of their comfort zone to create delicious plant based food for all, it really shows a commitment to creating a better future for all!
Thank you to Mornay and the team from - you made our week!!!!

I would like to ask everyone living in SA on my contact list to consider adding Greyton Farm Animal Sanctuary as a beneficiary to their WOOLWORTHS My Planet card. This is a "free" and simple way to donate to the animals many deem fit only for the plate. This is how you can give back to these beautiful souls lucky enough to live out the rest of their natural lives roaming freely with their best friends or families. Each swipe adds a rand or two to the final donation every month, and is an essential source of funding for the sanctuary to feed, medicate and pamper these babies.
