Private Pilates & Yoga Classes
The Pilates method is based on six principles or "pillars" that form the foundation of this exercise system. These pillars are:
1. Concentration: Pilates emphasizes the importance of mental focus and concentration. By directing your attention to the precise ex*****on of each movement, you develop a deeper mind-body connection and enhance the effectiveness of the exercises.
2. Control: Pilates promotes the idea of maintaining control over your body throughout each exercise. By moving with precision and fluidity, you learn to engage specific muscles while keeping others relaxed. This control is key to developing strength, stability, and coordination.
3. Centering: The concept of "center" in Pilates refers to the core muscles of the body, including the abdominals, lower back, hips, and glutes. Pilates exercises are designed to strengthen and stabilize this center, providing a solid foundation for all movements.
4. Precision: Pilates exercises prioritize the quality of movement over quantity. Each movement is performed with precision and attention to detail, ensuring correct alignment and muscle activation. This focus on precision helps to improve body awareness and prevent injury.
5. Breathing: Proper breathing is an integral part of Pilates. The emphasis is on lateral breathing, where you inhale deeply into the sides and back of the ribcage, expanding your lungs fully. Breath control helps to enhance concentration, oxygenate the body, and facilitate smooth movement.
6. Flow: Pilates encourages flowing and continuous movement, aiming to create a sense of grace and ease. Transitions between exercises are smooth and seamless, promoting a sense of rhythm and integration throughout the workout.
By incorporating these pillars into your Pilates practice, you can improve your strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall body awareness.
