KNOW your stuff!
Respect and protect your body. ♥️

The rising use of injectable weight loss and aesthetic treatments from unregistered providers presents serious health risks. Substandard or counterfeit ( often cheaper) products may give initial good results, but it may contain harmful substances with disastrous long term effects. Organ damage, infection, allergic reactions and tissue damage are possible complications. These risks highlight the importance of seeking treatment from qualified professionals using approved products to ensure your safety.

Dr Des: Focus on YOU - Weight management.

Weight management refers to the process of achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight through a combination of dietary changes, physical activity, and behavioural modifications. It involves balancing the number of calories you consume (through food and drink) with the number of calories your body uses (through physical activity and basic bodily functions).
Key components of weight management include:
1. Healthy Eating:
Balanced Diet: Consuming a variety of foods in appropriate portions, focusing on fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats.
Calorie Control: Monitoring calorie intake to ensure it aligns with your goals (e.g., creating a calorie deficit for weight loss or ensuring enough calories for weight gain).
Nutrient-Dense Foods: Focusing on foods that provide high nutritional value rather than empty calories (like those found in processed junk food).
2. Regular Physical Activity:
Exercise helps burn calories, build muscle, and improve overall health. A combination of cardio (aerobic exercise) and strength training (muscle-building exercises) is often recommended for optimal weight management.
3. Behavioural and Lifestyle Changes:
Developing healthier habits, such as meal planning, stress management, getting enough sleep, and staying consistent with physical activity. Tracking progress (e.g., using a food journal or app to monitor calorie intake and exercise) can help reinforce good habits and keep you on track.
4. Understanding Your Body:
Factors like metabolism, genetics, hormones, and lifestyle can influence how your body responds to weight management strategies. Consulting healthcare providers or nutritionists can help tailor a weight management plan to individual needs.
Good weight management is not just about appearance—it's about achieving a balance that supports both physical and mental health.

Dr Des: Focus on YOU : Perioral dermatitis

Prognosis

While perioral dermatitis can be stubborn and take weeks or months to fully resolve, it is manageable and usually clears up completely with proper treatment. It is not generally life-threatening or harmful, but it can be socially uncomfortable due to its appearance on the face.

Common Causes / Triggers

The exact cause isn’t always clear, but these are the most frequent contributors:

Topical steroid creams (very common trigger—even mild ones)
Heavy face creams or moisturizers (especially occlusive products)
Cosmetics and makeup
Fluoridated toothpaste
Hormonal changes
Stress
Weather changes (wind, heat, humidity)
Skin barrier damage (over-exfoliating, harsh treatments)
Microbial factors (yeast or bacteria imbalance on the skin)

Symptoms

Perioral dermatitis has a distinct appearance:

Small red or pink bumps (sometimes with tiny pus heads)
Rash around the mouth (often sparing the skin right next to the lips)
Can spread to nose and eyes
Dry, flaky, or scaly skin
Burning or stinging sensation (more common than itching)
Skin may feel tight and sensitive

Dr Des: Focus on YOU
Hypothyroidism. Is your Thyroid happy?

Hypothyroidism happens when the thyroid gland doesn't make enough thyroid hormone. This condition also is called underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism may not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. Over time, hypothyroidism that isn't treated can lead to other health problems, such as high cholesterol and heart problems. Blood tests are used to diagnose hypothyroidism. Treatment with thyroid hormone medicine usually is simple, safe and effective once you and your health care provider find the right dosage for you.

Hypothyroidism symptoms may include:
• Tiredness.
• More sensitivity to cold.
• Constipation.
• Dry skin.
• Weight gain.
• Puffy face.
• Hoarse voice.
• Coarse hair and skin.
• Muscle weakness.

Dr Des: Focus on YOU : Flu Vaccination.

The influenza vaccination works by injecting inactive flu viruses into the bloodstream, which will encourage your immune system to produce antibodies. These antibodies are the proteins that render viruses inactive. Although it doesn’t only protect you against all the small viruses that’s coming along, it will also protect you against the big strains originating from Europe that can confine you to bed for a significant period, typically 2 to 3 weeks.

Flu symptoms include:
• sudden onset of fever
• cough (usually dry)
• headache
• muscle and joint pain
• severe malaise (feeling unwell)
• sore throat
• runny nose.
