Gizella is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Professional Board of Psychology at the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Healthcare funders (BHF). She completed her internship at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, where she gained experience working within the Children’s Unit, Forensic Unit and the Complex Disruptive Psychiatric Unit. Prior to being accepted for the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology degree, Gizella worked as a special needs educator and applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapist for four years with children with Neurodevelopmental disorders and other special needs. Her principal inspiration for embarking upon the challenging journey of becoming a psychologist was the belief that she could assist and support people through their greatest suffering and the most painful moments of their lives through psychotherapy. Gizella is passionate about assisting people, through the therapeutic journey to recognize their strength and resilience, and to step forward with grace and courage. She has found great fulfillment in her role as a psychotherapist, as she is permitted to carry in her heart and mind the stories of other people’s love, hurt, trauma, struggles and eventual growth. She views psychotherapy as a collaborative journey whereby a person can explore their inner world of thoughts, feelings and experiences. Such an exploration of one’s inner world within the safety of a strong therapeutic relationship sets the foundation for healing, personal growth, the promotion of well-being and the enhancement of interpersonal interactions for a more fulfilling life and relationships. Gizella works from an integrative perspective, drawing from various modalities and techniques to tailor psychotherapy to each client’s unique history, values, needs and individual therapeutic goals. She received training in different psychological modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy.
