Project Potential

Project Potential Through their programs, Project Potential aims to enhance the learners' self-esteem, boost their confidence, and instill a sense of purpose and belonging.

Project Potential RSA, a non-profit community initiative, empowers South African youth with work readiness skills, fostering independence and confidence through workshops on professional identity, legislation awareness, and mental health support Project Potential is a Non-Profit Company based in Gauteng, South Africa, dedicated to empowering disadvantaged youth who have fallen through the cracks of the social and educational systems. The organization's mission is to bridge the gap between high school learners and the labor market by equipping them with essential work-readiness skills and knowledge. Recognizing the adverse effects of high youth unemployment rates on mental and physical well-being, Project Potential strives to provide practical opportunities for young individuals to uplift themselves and create their own future. By offering comprehensive workshops, the organization equips learners in low-income settings with crucial skills such as interview techniques, professional writing, and an understanding of South African legislation. They guide participants in building a vision for their future and provide practical steps to help them achieve their goals. Moreover, Project Potential facilitates learnerships, enabling graduates of their workshops to secure paid positions within reputable organizations. With a focus on sustainable impact, Project Potential ensures that all course materials, including stationery and supplies, are provided to the learners at no additional cost. The organization also strives to create an inclusive environment by offering a light lunch during the workshops, ensuring that participants can fully engage and benefit from the program. By addressing the challenges of youth unemployment and school dropout rates, Project Potential aims to make a meaningful contribution to the South African economy and society as a whole. Their dedication to empowering young people and equipping them with the necessary skills for success aligns with their vision of creating a brighter future where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Project Potential South Africa is proud to have contributed to the development of the National Strategy to Accelerate Action for Children (NSAAC), which has now been approved by Cabinet.

The NSAAC is a coordinated national plan that brings together government, civil society and communities to strengthen the wellbeing of children and teens. It focuses on ten priority areas, including early learning, nutrition, safety, adolescent health, disability inclusion, family support and pathways to education and work. These priorities are intended to guide national action so that children can grow, learn and live in environments that support their full potential.

With the strategy now formally adopted as policy, we look forward to supporting the next phase of implementation. We remain committed to holding the relevant government departments accountable to their commitments and to helping ensure that the NSAAC’s goals are translated into real life impact for children, families and communities across South Africa.

In line with the media statement issued by the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities on 7 December 2025, Project Potential RSA expresses its support for the Department’s call to strengthen national efforts in addressing rising su***de rates among young people.

The Department’s focus on coordinated action across families, schools, communities and institutions aligns with our organisation’s work in youth development, skills building and mental health awareness. Through our programmes, workshops and school based engagements, we promote mental health literacy, encourage early help seeking and contribute to environments where young people can access reliable support.

We remain committed to these priorities by integrating mental health education into our activities, collaborating with practitioners and educators where possible, and supporting early identification and referral pathways. As part of this commitment, we encourage the use of established support services, including the SADAG Su***de Crisis Line (0800 567 567 / SMS 31393).

— Muhammad Yaeesh Cassim, Project Potential RSA

Day 2 brought a powerful blend of diverse negotiations, meaningful dialogue, and intentional networking — all rooted in our shared commitment to driving global change that is inclusive, sustainable, and youth-centered.

One of the standout moments was the launch of the Y20 Alumni Association — a monumental step toward ensuring that youth voices are not only heard, but truly acted upon. This platform signals a future where young leaders are continuously engaged, empowered, and positioned to influence policy long after the summit ends.

Together, we are shaping the world we want to inherit. 🌱🇿🇦🌍
