Pictured here, is a young childhood cancer sarcoma survivor with her hero, Pieter-Stef du Toit at the recent Springbok rugby match against Georgia.

She was previously diagnosed with an Osteogenic Sarcoma (bone sarcoma) of her left leg. She received chemotherapy at the WDGMC and also underwent limb-salvage surgery, and was able to walk onto the rugby field with her hero for the singing of both national anthems.

We’re proud to announce the first endobariatric surgery performed at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre — marking a significant step forward in minimally invasive weight-loss treatment.

Endobariatrics refers to a new wave of incisionless, endoscopic procedures designed to support sustainable weight loss without the need for traditional surgery. Using a thin, flexible tube with a camera (an endoscope), these innovative techniques reduce risks, speed up recovery, and eliminate external scarring — all while delivering powerful metabolic benefits.

This milestone highlights our commitment to cutting-edge care, offering patients safer, less invasive options for managing obesity and its associated health challenges

From school drop-offs to shared rides, their friendship led to a life-saving transplant. Together, they recovered and returned to the start line, with Danny declaring, “I want my kidney next to me at the finish.” In 2025, they’re back, riding stronger and together.
