Imbizo Tours: Shaping the Legacy of Soweto Tourism
Imbizo Tours has played a pioneering role in introducing Soweto to the world, not only through guided tours but also by helping to establish the now-famous Soweto Route. Their efforts continue to shape and uplift local heritage through community-driven tourism initiatives.
One of their latest projects is the development of a new tourism stop in Rockville, opposite the historic Regina Mundi Church on Vilakazi Street. Here, a tribute wall—known as the Wall of Rockville Legends—is under development. It aims to honour local heroes through poetry, art, and storytelling. This evolving landmark celebrates the spirit of Soweto and its people, with completion expected soon.
Creative Scientist and Artist Tumelo Mokopakgosi has been instrumental in bringing these stories to life. Through his artwork, he has captured the contributions of legendary figures such as Ms Mandy Mankazana and the late anti-apartheid activist Helen Suzman. Their faces and stories now stand proudly in soweto inspiring both locals and visitors.
Ms Mandy Mankazana, a passionate advocate for Soweto and community tourism, has also supported the transformation of Baba Tulane’s place into a welcoming tourist stop. Her love for Soweto and dedication to its growth continues to empower local spaces and create economic opportunities.
Imbizo Tours remains a powerful force in community tourism, fostering pride, preserving culture, and promoting the rich history of Soweto—one story at a time.
