To this end it seeks to be as inclusive as possible in these two areas, whilst at the same time ensuring that appropriate and proper standards are set and maintained for both. The Institute was formally founded early in 2000 and its initiation and inception was fundamentally due to the need for a representative professional body for traumatology and crisis intervention. The Institute is a registered Company not for gain and enjoys international membership and representation. It has eminent academic and professional members in its management body. As an underlying and important principle the Institute seeks to be as broadly representative as possible. In this way it believes it will be best able to serve the needs of its members and the public at large. MISSION STATEMENT
It is the aim of the International Institute of Traumatology and Crisis Intervention to:
Provide for research; development; certification; advice; consultation; direction; co-ordination; treatment; dissemination of information; international collaboration; maintaining and prescribing standards, ethics, professionalism, both individual and institutional and in all or. any other aspects or respects, of and in, the profession of traumatology and in crisis intervention. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
To promote the professional and occupational development of those involved in the various aspects of traumatology and crisis intervention and to' facilitate and enhance to careers and involvement of all its members in the service of those requiring treatment for trauma and crisis situations. To provide for the encouragement, recognition and accreditation of basic and specialized, formal and professional courses of study of a high standard and recognition for the needs of all sectors of society with a view to increasing the availability of effective and efficient traumatological services. To update and improve the professional, technical and general knowledge of members of the Institute and of people at large; to elevate the functional and professional status of persons engaged or about to engage in the treatment of trauma, and with a view thereto to devise criteria and arrangements of testing the qualifications of candidates for admission to membership of the Institute by examination; exemption" accreditation; endorsement or any other such means; to grant certificates and' diplomas of ' qualifications and/or membership to successful candidates; as also to institute and establish scholarships, grants, rewards and other such benefactions. To actively co-operate, liaise, interact and consult with local and international professional and educational organizations on maters related to traumatology and crisis intervention including education, training and development, and the effective utilization and development of qualified persons in the field. To hold meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, and congresses for the discussion of subjects related to traumatology and crisis intervention or any other such cognate matters; to arrange for the reading of papers and the delivery of lectures, to issue copies or abridgements of papers, lectures, treatises, records, and other memoranda of special interest to members of the Institute and to the public at large. To provide an organization to facilitate the interchange of opinions, knowledge and experience between suitable and proper persons or bodies engaged in the practice of traumatology and crisis intervention and other su.ch professional pursuits. To provide and disseminate relevant information on development on developments and trends in traumatology and crisis intervention through
appropriate media, including but not limited to the Internet. To speak authoritatively on traumatology and crisis intervention including
education, training, and development or any other matters related to it; and to generally enhance the functional and professional status and image of the Institute and that of its members. To promote and encourage reading, investigation and research amongst its members; and to supply and donate literature, books, periodicals journals, magazines, statistics, returns or funds to public libraries for these purposes. To compile, update and revise lists and registers of members of the Institute; to watch over, promote and protect their mutual interests, and to generally exercise supervision over them by ensuring that the Institute's code of ethics and professional conduct is strictly being adhered to. To provide at all times, an, appropriate and effective infrastructure that includes a sound organization structure and a healthy financial resource base to implement and meaningfully manage the above goals.
