The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, launched in July 2025, is investigating allegations of syndicate infiltration, political interference, and corruption within the justice system. Despite a budget of R147 million for six months, its work has already been delayed due to procurement issues.
This matters because:
•Trust: Citizens’ faith in justice is eroding.
•Rule of law: Political interference undermines equality before the law.
•Public resources: In a tight fiscal climate, inquiries must yield real reform.
Education is directly affected. Corruption diverts funds from schools, deepens inequality, and damages teacher morale. Learners, too, absorb the lesson when misconduct goes unpunished, that impunity is normal.
The Commission must deliver more than findings; it must lead to credible accountability and institutional reform.
Policymakers must act on its recommendations, and citizens must remain vigilant. Sustainable governance depends on embedding integrity across all sectors so that justice, education, and society at large can thrive. Our learners, tomorrow’s leaders, are watching!
