M o v e & M e d i t a t e

Feeling so blessed to be able to host a workshop again - and even more so, as this is a collaborative effort with my husband, Stephen Koster.

Stevie has dedicated much of his time studying many healing modalities and is well-aquainted with various meditation techniques. He has set up Conscious Construction as his private practice a few years back doing family constellation therapy, life coaching and hypno-therapy.

We have decided to merge our fields of expertise to allow for a shared experience doing what we love - working with people.

And thus - this workshop was born! (And hopefully many more to come)

Come join us on Saturday for a raw and honest workshop where we work on placing intentions, working from and towards those intentions & explore meditation techniques. We’ll do some some yoga and focus on going inwards and deepening a connection to ourselves and with those around us. Refreshments will be served too 😉

Make a booking as space is limited! Hope to meet you on the mat at Salter Pilates studio 🙏🏼

A simple technique to quickly come back into your body if you feel a bit disconnected:
Right where you are, whether standing or sitting, gently place your hand(s) on your lap facing up. Begin by looking at your fingers and wrists and the mid.line in your palm. Slowly begin to feel what the inside of your hands feel like, what do the bones joints and ligaments feel like? What does the skin feel like? Notice your nails, (non judgementally of course! Feel what they feel like.
Envision a soft and gentle warmth filling the crevaces of the fingers and the wrist.. and as you breathe and remain aware of the hands spreading warmth, allow that warms to grow into the arms up into the shoulders and fill the rest of your being.

Give it an honest try, what did you feel? ✨

Happy Sunday 🪴

When our bodies are up-regulated, our sympathetic nervous system is activated - which serves to engage us for action, especially in threatening situations.

Once the threat has passed, our nervous systems may remain up regulated on an unconscious level - often after a traumatic event. It is important to allow our bodies to remain regulated to allow for all systems in the body to run smoothly. This allows our parasympathetic nervous system to kick in and helps us relax remain present.

Ways to help is regulate our nervous system:

✨Getting outside in sunshine and nature
✨Surrounding yourself with loved ones, by embracing or hugging
✨Getting enough Rest

Santosha [santoṣaḥ]

finding contentment or bliss beyond physical circumstance. Or, as we would say in English, joy. Unlike happiness, which is fleeting and very surface level - joy is something that fills your being from your toes to the crown of the head and is felt as a golden kiss in the heart-space.

We are fooled to think that such a profound experience can only come from contact to outside stimuli. The world is a mirror - and your reaction to whatever you see shows something that already exists within you. When you see a beautiful flower and you feel joy, that joy is already within you - the flower is merely a vehicle that reveals that joy to you. When something bad happens and you become sad or angry - that outside happening just reveals a sadness or anger that was inside you all along. Instead of making yourself dependent on what the outside world shows you to dictate what you feel on the inside, santosha refers to a higher state of consciousness that is not attached to the outside worlds physical circumstance.
When you are angry - observe that anger and let it move through you.
When you are sad, observe that sadness and let it move through you.
But above all, enjoy it. And as bizarre as that might sound, i don’t mean grab ahold of it and identify yourself with it - i just mean experience it fully so that the feeling moves through you.
Find joy in the knowing that you are not those feelings and emotions, but that your essence is made of something far deeper and far more profound. That is true santosha, true joy ✨

Dance with yourself.

Allow your body - which is the largest part of the unconscious - to feel and move intuitively. Give yourself the permission to soften your shoulders and unclench your jaw. When you roll your yoga mat open, i hope you give yourself the chance to communicate openly with your body. Let the movements the arise through your spine and limbs be nurturing towards yourself. Feel the edges of your skin and dance to the rhythm of your breath

I hope that you carry this with you in your next yoga practice and that you find joy in being in the soles of your feet 🌞

yoga in the sun 🌞

We are heading full swing into summer as the temperatures heat up and make way for a lovely Vitamin D filled practice in the mat.

Many call my crazy for wanting to roll my black rubber mat out in the 34° weather, but you know, there is a sort of rawness of the practice that indoor spaces cannot quite replicate. The lovely warm sun kissing your skin and the cool summer breeze cooling you down as you move from asana to asana ignites that prana energy and allows you to just go that little but further 🙏🏼

Have a happy sunny Monday ✨

Namaste mudra

A commonly used mudra of placing the hands together along the meridian of ones body. Signifying the union of masculine and feminine - the marriage of these devine forces within us, if you will.

Once we understand what it means to come to wholeness, then we can understand that it is the inner masculine that makes space for our inner feminine and vica versa. The world works hard at putting these two forces up against one another, resulting in endless inner conflict that manifests in endless external conflict between us as humans.

Every time I use this gesture in practice I make the conscious decision to check in with my inner masculine and my inner feminine at work, and to honour both sides of my inner landscape.

Sometimes we need to embody the hunter, and other times we need to embody the gatherer.

And in this wholeness - we get to understand why it is called Namaste mudra, for only once we’re whole can the beauty in our soul see and accept the beauty in another’s soul.

🙏🏼🧿

Every time you look through the many lenses, obstacles, rules and fixations that you have placed before yourself; you only see a skewed image through a dirty mirror - which hardly represents a true reflection of who you are. We are then, continuously fighting against who we see and who we think we are as the image is rarely one that is acceptable to the psyche.

Now someone wise once asked, instead of fighting so hard with ourselves - what if we simply bowed?

Mala Beads / Japamala beads

As my practice has grown into more and more of an inward act of honouring my body in these final weeks - i find myself returning to meditation practices using the mala prayer beads.

Traditionally used for prayer and meditation with the intention to carry a mantra with each bead, to be repeated 108 times (as there are 108 beads on a string)

108 is seen as the number for spiritual completeness and so helps bring the mind to a single pointed focus through repetition.
