No one could have seen COVID-19 coming, or indeed its far reaching and devastating effects – especially for the most vulnerable, including the women and children of our communities and our endangered wildlife.

The beneficiaries of this year’s Extra Mile event are our Jabez Preschool, in the heart of the Justicia B community, and our partner, the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Wild Dog Project.

a doctor was shot in cold blood earlier this week. If you do not know the background I will post it in the first comment below.

If you’re trying to understand why doctors are protesting perhaps let me try to explain. You see immediately when I read that story I thought to myself “that could be me”. My husband asked me this morning as I left for work why I was wearing this black armband. I explained to him and finished with this, “imagine if that was me”. His reply was not “it would never be” it was simply “I don’t want to think about that”. The investigation into both the murder and the Medicolegal case I am referencing are still underway and it would be irresponsible of me to try to make inferences. The point I am wanting to make is I have been in a situation where a family accused me of killing their child (sidebar I was not at fault in this instance). Their blame shot like a bullet out of a snipers rifle. Not faltering, perfectly targeted. They were angry and continuously flung insults and accusations my way. It was a traumatic ordeal that I took a long time to recover from. All day every day as health care workers we live with this risk like a monkey on our back. The risk of making a catastrophic mistake. We check and double check ourselves. We do the best that we can. But still we know, as we have experienced, that mistakes cannot be completely avoided. That we are constantly one mistake away from being arrested for culpable homicide. And that’s why I’m wearing this armband. Because I absolutely cannot accept a society where there is no outrage when a doctor is murdered in cold blood. Because that could be me. Because because
