This World Obesity Day, we're proud to share our Health with Heart Podcast conversation with Dr Patrick Bennett on obesity, weight gain, weight loss, metabolic health, and - of course - Ozempic.

Dr Patrick is a health tech entrepreneur with a passion for supporting patients on a weight loss journey. His online platform, Flourish, is a place where specially trained professionals can support patients on a weight loss journey with a multi-disciplinary team and the right medicines to support them.

This is an information-dense episode unpacking the physiology of fat and the impact of extra fat on metabolism. We delve into why we need fat, how our bodies strive to hold onto it at all costs, and how this impacts our metabolic, cardiovascular, and mental health. We talk about all of the weight loss drugs available to us, their risks, benefits and the new 'wonder drug' that everyone is trying to get hold of - Ozempic.

I HAVE RECENTLY RELOCATED FROM PORT ELIZABETH TO MPUMALANGA.
I would like to introduce myself to you and give you some information on my background and skills.
My passion and special interests are Vertigo, Vestibular Rehabilitation and Geriatrics.
I do have a general practice and treat other related Physiotherapy conditions as well.

BPPV.
The most common cause of dizziness is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. (BPPV)
Symptoms of BPPV include vertigo or dizziness, lightheadedness, imbalance, and nausea.
BPPV is a disorder caused by a problem in the inner ear.
The symptoms are repeated episodes of positional vertigo, that is, of a spinning sensation caused by changes in the position of the head.
Common examples are rolling over in bed, getting out of bed, sudden head motion, looking up or down, hair washing at the hairdresser, tipping of the dentist chair, during exercises changing the position of the head in relationship to gravity, and others that vary between individuals.
There are other causes of Vertigo as well.

VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION.

Vestibular rehabilitation is a physical therapy that focuses on improving symptoms related to vestibular disorders.
The first step will be to do a thorough assessment to determine the
diagnosis and the functional deficit of the patient in order to develop an individualized program.

After 47 years of practice I have
made the difficult decision to close my practice.My last day of practice will be on the 24 April 2024.
I will be relocating to White River and have a part time practice there.

🤲 Hand Sanitiser - all patients will be required to sanitise their hands upon entry

😷 Face Masks - all staff and patients are required to wear face masks during their treatments

🚿 Treatment Beds Sanitised - we are sanitising all treatment surfaces between patients

🌡 Temperature Checks - all patients will have their temperatures taken when entering the practice

⬅️➡️ Distancing - all treatments rooms are appropriately spaced out
