Subfertility

Not getting pregnant, despite having carefully timed, unprotected s*x for one year.
The cause of infertility may be difficult to determine but may include inadequate levels of certain hormones in both men and women, and trouble with ovulation in women.

Usually self-diagnosable
The main symptom is an inability to get pregnant. In many cases, there are no additional symptoms.

Treatment varies
Many treatments significantly improve the chances of getting pregnant.

Subfertility definition

The terms subfertility and infertility are often used interchangeably, but they aren't the same. Subfertility is a delay in conceiving. Infertility is the inability to conceive naturally after one year of trying.

Common Infections

Vaginal infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites or viruses growing in and around the v***a and va**na. They are especially common during the reproductive years of a woman because of fluctuating hormone levels and s*xual activity. There are four types of va**nal infections which are common infections during pregnancy.

1.Yeast infection

This common infection is caused by a fungus called candida. This is one of the most common infections during pregnancy because of hormonal changes and changes in the immune system.

Symptoms:

• Itching around the va**na or v***a.
• Thick, white or yellowish, curdled-like va**nal discharge.
• Strange odor emanating from the va**na.
• Pain or burning during s*xual in*******se.

#2. Bacterial vaginosis

This infection occurs when there is an overgrowth of the normally occurring bacteria in the va**na. Bacterial vaginosis is also one of the most common infections during pregnancy.

Symptoms

• Itching, burning, or pain in the va**na or v***a.
• Greyish, thin consistency discharge.
• Fishy odor from the va**na.
• Pain while urinating.

3. Group B Streptococcus (GBS):

GBS is one of the many types of bacteria that live in the body and usually do not cause serious illness. It is found in the digestive, urinary, and reproductive tracts of men and women. In women, it can be found in the va**na and re**um. However, in a small percentage of pregnant women, the infection may pass on to the baby during labour.

Symptoms

There are no systems of GBS in the pregnant woman. However, newborns infected with GBS may contract an early-onset infection or late-onset infection.

• Slowness or inactivity
• Irritability
• Poor feeding
• Vomiting
• High fever

What age to visit a gynecologists or obgyne

Ideally, your daughter should have her first visit by 15 – or as soon as she becomes s*xually active. The purpose of this visit goes far beyond making sure she's using contraception.

Gynecology recommend annual Pap tests to screen for cervical cancer starting at age 21, regardless of s*xual activity. But issues can come up long before then.

Because the average age for starting menstruation is 12 years and 9 months. It’s appropriate for girls to begin seeing a gynecologist as early as age 13.

recommends bringing your daughter to a gynecologist between the ages of 13 and 15, regardless of whether or not she’s started menstruating or is s*xually active.

Most often, a pelvic exam isn’t needed at the first visit, and young girls should know that ahead of time to put their minds at ease.

Sexually transmitted disease
Also called: STD

An infection transmitted through s*xual contact, caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites.

MOST COMMON TYPES

Human papillomavirus infection

An infection that causes warts in various parts of the body, depending on the strain.

Ge***al herpes

A common s*xually transmitted infection marked by ge***al pain and sores.

Chlamydia

A common, s*xually transmitted infection that may not cause symptoms.

Signs and symptoms that might indicate an STI include: Sores or bumps on the ge***als or in the oral or re**al area. Painful or burning urination. Discharge from the p***s.

Bacterial STDs can be cured with antibiotics if treatment begins early enough. Viral STDs cannot be cured, but you can manage symptoms with medications. There is a vaccine against hepatitis B, but it will not help if you already have the disease.

STIs vs. STDs
Often confused, s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) and s*xually transmitted diseases (STDs) aren’t actually the same thing.

Signs and symptoms may include:

Painful urination
Lower abdominal pain
Vaginal discharge in women
Discharge from the p***s in men
Pain during s*xual in*******se in women
Bleeding between periods in women
Testicular pain in men

If you suspect you have an STI, see your doctor
If you suspect that you have these or other STIs or that you may have been exposed to one, see your doctor for testing. Timely diagnosis and treatment is important to avoid or delay more-severe, potentially life-threatening health problems and to avoid infecting others.

Pap smear

A Pap smear, also called a Pap test, is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. A Pap smear involves collecting cells from your cervix — the lower, narrow end of your uterus that's at the top of your va**na. Detecting cervical cancer early with a Pap smear gives you a greater chance at a cure.

A Pap test can detect cervical cancer and changes in your cervical cells that may increase your risk of cervical cancer in the future.

You should start getting Pap tests at age 21. If your Pap test result is normal, your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years until your next Pap test.

Women should start Pap smear screening at age 21. Between the ages of 21-29, women whose Pap smears are normal only need it repeated every three years. Women ages 30 and over should have testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV) with their Pap smear. HPV is the cause of cervical cancer

Different types of Miscarriage

There are several types of miscarriage – threatened, inevitable, complete, incomplete or missed.

Early miscarriage is when a pregnancy is lost in the first 3 months (first trimester) of pregnancy. This is the most common type of miscarriage.

Yes, a blighted o**m is a miscarriage. A miscarriage is a loss of pregnancy before 20 weeks. A blighted o**m is considered an early miscarriage because it occurs before 13 weeks of pregnancy.

A missed abortion is a miscarriage in which your fetus didn't form or has died, but the placenta and embryonic tissues are still in your uterus. It's known more commonly as a missed miscarriage. It's also sometimes called a silent miscarriage. A missed abortion is not an elective abortion.

Various factors increase the risk of miscarriage, including:
Age. Women older than age 35 have a higher risk of miscarriage than do younger women. ...
Previous miscarriages. ...
Chronic conditions. ...
Uterine or cervical problems. ...
Smoking, alcohol and illicit drugs. ...
Weight. ...
Invasive prenatal tests.

The loss of a pregnancy before 13 completed weeks is called early pregnancy loss. It also may be called a miscarriage or spontaneous abortion.

Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a growth of cells that forms in the ovaries. The cells multiply quickly and can invade and destroy healthy body tissue.

The female reproductive system contains two ovaries, one on each side of the uterus. The ovaries — each about the size of an almond — produce eggs (ova) as well as the hormones estrogen and progesterone.

A cancer that begins in the female organs that produce eggs (ovaries).

Ovarian cancer often goes undetected until it has spread within the pelvis and stomach. At this late stage, ovarian cancer is more difficult to treat and can be fatal.

Requires a medical diagnosis

Ovarian cancer often has no symptoms in the early stages. Later stages are associated with symptoms, but they can be non-specific, such as loss of appetite and weight loss.

Can have no symptoms, but people may experience:

Pain areas: in the abdomen or pelvis

Gastrointestinal: bloating, change in bowel habits, indigestion, or nausea

Abdominal: abdominal fullness, fluid in the abdomen, or lump in the abdomen

Whole body: cancer-related fatigue or loss of appetite

Also common: weight loss

Reproductive System

The female reproductive system is made up of the internal and external s*x organs that function in reproduction of new offspring. In humans, the female reproductive system is immature at birth and develops to maturity at puberty to be able to produce gametes, and to carry a foetus to full term

The internal s*x organs are the va**na, uterus, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries. The va**na allows for s*xual in*******se and birth, and is connected to the uterus at the cervix. The uterus or womb accommodates the embryo which develops into the foetus.

A visit to the gynecologist is recommended for annual screening and any time a woman has concerns about symptoms such as pelvic, v***ar, and va**nal pain or abnormal bleeding from the uterus. Conditions commonly treated by gynecologists include: issues relating to pregnancy, fertility, menstruation, and menopause.

Ovarian cysts

Most ovarian cysts don't cause symptoms. In some cases, menstrual irregularities, pain during in*******se or irregular bowel movements can occur.

Can have no symptoms, but people may experience:

Pain areas: in the back, pelvis, or side part of the body
Pain circumstances: can occur during s*xual in*******se
Menstrual: abnormal menstruation, irregular menstruation, painful menstruation, or spotting
Also common: cramping or excessive hairiness

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that grow on a woman’s o***y. They are relatively widespread and usually harmless.

The two most common types of ovarian cysts are:

Corpus luteum cyst: This type of cyst develops in the corpus luteum, which is tissue that fills an empty follicle once it has released an egg during ovulation. These cysts may bleed and cause pain.

Follicular cyst: These cysts form in a follicle where an egg develops during ovulation.

Endometriosis & Fibroids

Fibroids are smooth muscle tumors (usually noncancerous) that grow in the uterus from the muscle layers of the womb. Endometriosis, meanwhile, is when tissue around the uterus grows abnormally, which can create cysts on the ovaries, irritate surrounding tissue, or cause a scar that binds reproductive organs

Uterine growths such as polyps and fibroids that arise in the endometrium can also cause chronic endometritis. Chronic endometritis may cause no symptoms or result in irregular uterine bleeding. Pelvic pain may occur, but pain and fever are usually more typical of acute endometritis.

Endometriosis occurs along with hormonal imbalance, and changing hormone levels can leave you suffering mood swings that interfere with your daily life.

28/01/2022

Prenatal care, also known as antenatal care, is a type of preventive healthcare. It is provided in the form of medical checkups, consisting of recommendations on managing a healthy lifestyle and the provision of medical information such as maternal physiological changes in pregnancy, biological changes, and prenatal nutrition including prenatal vitamins, which prevents potential health problems throughout the course of the pregnancy and promotes the mother and child's health alike. The availability of routine prenatal care, including prenatal screening and diagnosis, has played a part in reducing the frequency of maternal death, miscarriages, birth defects, low birth weight, neonatal infections and other preventable health problems.

Traditional prenatal care in high-income countries generally consists of:

monthly visits during the first two trimesters (from the 1st week to the 28th week)
fortnightly visits from the 28th week to the 36th week of pregnancy
weekly visits after 36th week to the delivery, from the 38th week to the 42nd week
Assessment of parental needs and family dynamics
