A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME...
Today I decided to share a little bit of insight into myself and my business, Janet's Planet. Images tell a thousand words, so you can get a feel for my life and my spirit by simply looking at these pictures, and reading my story about my spiritual growth and how my wellness business evolved below...
I founded my wellness business, Janet’s Planet, over 10 years ago and it has been a constant process of learning, evolution, growth, self enquiry, transformation and healing, for me and for those I share the teachings with.
I am a certified Yoga & meditation teacher, Sound Healing practitioner and International Wellness Retreat facilitator. I have lived in many countries, and explored many healing modalities as part of my own personal development and self inquiry process.
My spiritual journey began in 2007 when I was traveling through South East Asia, after a year of living in a beautiful National park in New Zealand. My travels in the East exposed me to Buddhism, Hinduism, Mantra, Yoga and so much more!
I was wandering through the streets early morning, and remember so clearly hearing monks chanting, feeling so drawn to their low gutteral sounds. They allowed me to sit with them in the temple, and immerse myself in their enchanting & mesmerising Mantra practise. I spent more time with the monks, grew dreadlocks, became vegetarian, lived in a treehouse for awhile, and started to visualise my new path, and how I would like to live a more holistic and healthy lifestyle moving forward. My trip to India and first stay in an ashram in 2010 really awakened my desire to teach and live a Yogic lifestyle.
Back in Cape Town, I was delighted to find my amazing Yoga teacher, Viktor van der Kleij, and began studying with him. I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the Knysna forest with him for 6 months, to assist him in running his ashram, whilst continuing to study all aspects of traditional classical Hatha Yoga.
I learnt so much about myself, the good, the bad and the ugly, and the difficulty and joys of a disciplined Yoga practise.
As part of our daily ashram schedule in the afternoons, we had Kirtan & Mantra chanting practise. It was always my favourite time of day! I feel blessed to have learnt so many mantras through Viktor, many of them deeply embedded inside my being now.Viktor always encouraged me to sing and play guitar, even if it wasn’t perfect, as long as I was playing and singing from my heart.
When I sing or chant mantras, I am taken to another realm ,where something greater, something divine flows through me, and I feel deeply connected to Spirit, and a channel of peace & calm. The human voice is something special to incorporate as part of Sound Healing and really helps us to feel connected to each other. Many people have a fear to express themselves or discover a blockage in this area, which can shift dramatically during the heartopening practises we move through in this course.
After a few years of teaching Yoga, I realized my love for dropping people into Shavasana. Guiding people into a deeply relaxed state of being, felt like an honour, and a much needed tool with all the stresses of today. I had one singing bowl at the time, from my trip to India, and I yearned for more instruments and more knowledge.
I headed to Nepal to do another Yoga teacher training course, and found Master Shree, A Tibetan master of Singing bowls. (Kathmandu Centre of Healing) I studied with him and completed my first Sound Healing certification, specialising in Tibetan Chakra balancing & singing bowl techniques, and also brought home some powerful bowls, made by his family. ( Also discovered the vast variety and high quality of amazing handmade instruments in Nepal)
In Cape Town, I began sharing Sound Journeys, and continued my Sound Healing training with the late Chris Tokalon, a very talented musician and Sound alchemist. Chris reminded me of the power of the human voice as a healing tool. Sadly, he passed away suddenly before I could complete my studies with him. Thirsty for more knowledge and to deepen my skills, I continued to travel to the East, either through tourguiding work, or for my own personal pilgrimages, exploring any Sound, Vibration & Mantra offerings that I could find. I collected my instruments from all over as I travelled. If an instrument called my name, or resonated with me, I bought it, and I started to form personal relationships with each one. In Bali, I studied under another wonderful teacher, Shervin Boloorian (Sound Healing Bali), which was a beautiful opportunity to continue my own personal self exploration and relationship with Sound.
Most recently, in January 2026, I completed a 120 hour intensive Sound Healing Therapist training with renowned teachers Michele & Nestor (Harmonic Sounds) in Spain. I learnt so much about my voice, my energy field and approaching Sound Healing with subtlety, softness and heightened awareness. I am still integrating the transmissions and activations that I received there. What I have come to understand is that everyone interprets and shares Sound differently. As we all vibrate on different frequencies, we will all relate and resonate with different sounds & vibrations, and need different variations to ground, balance and recalibrate us. I have learnt the importance of BEING and holding space, with presence, intention, honesty, authenticity, vulnerability and trust. I continue to learn every day.
My dream is to humbly share with you what I have learnt along the way, to allow the powerful modality of Sound & Vibration to infuse more people with its healing medicine. I am sure I will learn alot from you too!
My aim is to create a safe, supportive, non judgemental and curious space to invite you to explore how to do the same, and be in service with grace, humility and an open heart.
