World PI Week (22-29 April): Raising Awareness for Primary Immunodeficiencies (PIDs)/Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI)

Timely Diagnosis Matters! Early detection of Primary Immunodeficiencies can reduce hospitalisations, prevent long-term complications and significantly improve quality of life. With the right care, many can lead productive and fulfilling lives.

Take action: If you or someone you know is affected by illnesses that are Severe, Persistent, Unusual, or Recurrent, consult your healthcare professional about the possibility of a PID.

PIDs are a group of over 550 conditions where part of the body’s immune system is missing, does not function correctly or at all. These conditions leave individuals more vulnerable to infections, autoimmunity, and other complications.

Remember the Warning Signs: If you or someone you know is affected by illnesses that are Severe, Persistent, Unusual, or Recurrent, consult your healthcare professional about the possibility of a PID.

Today, we unite with the global community to celebrate World Haemophilia Day (WHD) under the inspiring theme: “Access for All: Women and Girls Bleed Too.”

This year, we shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked experiences of women and girls with bleeding disorders, who bravely navigate challenges like delayed diagnoses, misdiagnoses, and limited access to appropriate care.
In harmony with this vital message, the South African Haemophilia Foundation (SAHF) proudly amplifies this call across the nation, reaffirming its 2025–2027 Strategic Priority to ensure equitable access to care for all, regardless of bleeding disorder severity, gender or location.
NBI stands with the SAHF in championing these goals and initiatives.
