Kwendalo

Kwendalo Kwendalo is a holistic wellness centre & country estate in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa When was the last time you marvelled at something? A sunrise. A flower.

A rare bird. The movement of your own body. In a world where we are finding ourselves in increasingly poor physical and mental health, where we are harried and buffeted by the demands of modern life - feeling out of balance and unwell. Where we are are feeling disconnected from our surroundings, our food and each other. We have stopped growing and started simply surviving. Our health and wellness

suffer from this stagnation as we become increasingly disillusioned with traditional medicine – which often treats the symptoms but not the cause. Does this sound familiar? Many of us have similar stories. But what to do? What if there was a way to learn to restore your balance and enhance your wellbeing? What if there was a place, on the southern tip of Africa, passionate about restoring that balance of mind, body, and soul? Through a philosophy of six key dimensions of wellness, Kwendalo takes a holistic approach to wellbeing with the firm belief that one’s environment contributes to regeneration. Kwendalo founder, John Cavill, a successful tech entrepreneur, has been a lifelong student of the journey towards a more comprehensive approach to wellness. He has travelled the world, seeking holistic wellness treatments, growing while he learned and experienced. But, it was to Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa that UK-born John returned year after year; finding regeneration and inspiration in the natural surroundings, sun-kissed days, and fresh air – in the easy-going coastal lifestyle. Over the years, John connected with thought-leaders in wellness, biodiversity and nutrition, and the seed of an idea began to germinate: what if, in this unique paradise, there was to be found a personal cure for individual unwellness? This idea germinated as John nurtured it and, on the day that he viewed a singular estate, settled comfortably against a hillside outside Plettenberg Bay with views of the Tsitsikamma Mountains and the warm Indian Ocean, that the idea finally bloomed into…Kwendalo Wellness Centre. Unsurprisingly, the word Kwendalo means ‘of nature’ in local isiXhosa, language which is at the heart of our philosophy that everyone should be able to access the knowledge to live a healthier lifestyle by offering a range of wellness solutions to educate and immerse guests in the six key elements of wellness: environmental, social, physical, mental, spiritual and emotional – nourishing of mind, body and soul. At Kwendalo, we love to be in touch with the earth, to care for our food and watch it grow. Our extensive gardens are bursting with fresh, often unusual, produce grown using regenerative agriculture. We believe that our respect for our bodies is amplified in how we choose to grow our food; and demonstrated in what we choose to serve at our green cafe. We encourage you to grow as we grow, and take that knowledge home with you - our passion is for the understanding of a balanced lifestyle to be accessible to all. At our treatment centre, we offer an opportunity to reconnect with the physical world and be present, to rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul. Our skilled therapists and subject specialists are guided by our holistic principles, and the interconnectedness of the Kwendalo facility, to nurture imbalanced bodies and minds. Our location in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa – a wonder of biodiversity – further distils our belief in a thoroughly balanced approach to wellness. You are invited on a journey for your senses, you’re invited to rejuvenate and be inspired, and to find new experiences, learn new things, grow as we grow and take it all home with you.

Wishing you a wonderful World Migratory Bird Day! 🐦🌿

Today, we celebrate the beauty, resilience, and wonder of migratory birds, and the important reminder that every bird counts and every observation matters.

*World Migratory Bird Day at Kwendalo*
*Date:* Saturday, May 9th, 2026
*Time:* 07h00 – 12h00

In celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, Kwendalo is hosting a day dedicated to global citizen science.

*The Value of Winter Observations*
While South Africa is currently on the winter side of the migration cycle, local data is vital for a complete scientific record. Participating in the Southern Hemisphere during this time offers several benefits to the global initiative:

*Mapping the Full Cycle:* Documenting the "other half" of the migration story allows researchers to understand where birds spend their non-breeding months.

*Tracking Departures:*
Identifying the final departure dates of late-season migrants helps scientists monitor shifting climate patterns.

*Resident Biodiversity:* Monitoring the health and population of resident, non-migratory species provides a baseline for the overall health of the local ecosystem.

*Event Details*
Participants can enjoy the morning at Kwendalo and visit Café Kwendalo, which will be open for the duration of the event. A birding special of Egg & Bacon Rolls will be available for R50.
