Mariska Ferreira was 18 yrs old when she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease now currently 47 yrs old. This came as a shock as no one in our family has this disease.
Mariska had about 5 operations over a period of time regarding her Crohn's Disease and she has been on medication since the age of 18 for it. Mariska was very ill in 2007 where she went into a coma for a couple of days and eventually recovered.
Now April 2023 Mariska was rushed to hospital being very ill with her Crohn's. She was a week in a state Hospital, went home to recover further at home. In May 2023 Mariska had to go for a check up with the Dr at the State Hospital which I her Sister Romilda went with as she told me she didn't want to go alone.
As soon as Dr saw Mariska he said, I suspect you might have a blood clot in your leg, Dr admitted her immediately. She is tired, no breath, can hardly walk on her own, and now walking with a walking ring.
Mariska was approved 5 years ago by the Government as 1 of the 5 people to go onto the Injection for Crohn's Disease.
1 injection costs R5000 and all depending on what she needs she might have to take 1 or 2 injections for a month which could cost R10 000 pm only for the injections excluding any other medication.
But Government decided they cannot afford the injection anymore and she won't be getting the injection.
Mariska now has 2 blood clots, 1 in her left lung and 1 in her left leg which the leg is also swollen compared to the right leg.
Mariska is a Qualified Hairstylist for over 25 years, and now she is not allowed to work at all at this stage for a couple of months or longer. Dr cannot say exactly. Mariska is a person that gives her all to her work, she never stays out of work, does not matter how sick she is, she always worked unless she was hospitalized.
Mariska and her husband had to move out of their townhouse as they cannot afford the rental anymore, they are now renting a room in her sister in law house so they can at least have a roof over their heads.
Today 06 June 2023 our Mom saw Mariska and was shocked and my mom just cried, the pain and hurt see felt to see her daughter suffer like this and there isn't really anything our mom could do to help her. Mariska looks worse than when she left the hospital now in May 2023. She is so out of breath that it takes her a good 10 plus minutes to regain her strength and breath to try and talk to a person. She sleeps and rest most of the day as that is all that she can do, rest is what her body needs.
Mariska needs urgently help please.
We need to get her to a private specialist that specializes in Crohn's Disease. The state Hospitals, well no comment....
We are asking people to please please make donations that we can get Mariska the help that she needs Medically, Drs, Medication, Tests, Crohn's Injection etc.
We are trying everything possible to help Mariska, all donations will go towards all her medical expenses.
The hardest thing for Mariska is that she cannot do what she loves anymore till she is fully recovered, that is being what she is good at a Hairstylist for the past 25 years. This is all she knows, making people look beautiful, her passion.
She is beyond exhausted, pale, no energy whatsoever, weak and we as her family are really feeling worried and heart broken to see her suffer like this.
We need every single prayer and help please. Mariska is a very loving, caring, compassionate, loyal, honest, reliable person that will go out of her way for others.
