So I know I have been quiet the last few months, Iโ€™m so sorry !๐ŸฅฒBut I am still here !๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

A lot has happened and letโ€™s just say it has been keeping me very busy.๐Ÿ˜… I got married to my best friend, I started a new full time job, moved into a new home and I become a fur mom to two beautiful rescues. ๐Ÿพ

Though I donโ€™t see private patients full time anymore, I am still seeing patients on weekends, both in person and virtually. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ป

I am even more passionate now than before about helping people on their journey for health and happiness. ๐Ÿ’›

I am also excited to be sharing something different I have been working on very soon. ๐ŸŽ‰ So keep an eye out. ๐Ÿ‘€

Though social media is amazing with sharing resources and information, it can also spread incorrect information leading to a lot of problems. Specifically in nutrition, you find so many people giving dietary advice with no education or training in this field. It is actually now illegal to share nutritional advice or give mealplans etc if you are not a qualified dietitian or nutritionist. So please be careful when listening to nutritional advice from social media influencers ๐Ÿ’›

Mental Health Monday ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

People will always find something to comment on - always. Whether itโ€™s about how you dress, how you act, what you eat or even your personality in general.

To be vulnerable with you, many people have said that I am โ€œtoo muchโ€. My personality is just โ€œa lotโ€. I use to get weird looks or hear comments being whispered about me as I walked away. In the past this used to make me feel ashamed of who I was as a person. I tried to โ€œtone it downโ€ so that I was more acceptable to people - to try and fit into the mould.

But I realised that life is something that should be cherished. Every moment is a blessing. So I am not going to live my life being a different version of myself. I am going to be my real self. I am going to be a bit weird, a bit loud, a bit dramatic and a bit โ€œtoo muchโ€. Because that is who I am - and it took me FAR too long to realise and embrace this fact.

So if you are getting comments about โ€œyou shouldnโ€™t be wearing thatโ€ or โ€œyou shouldnโ€™t be eating thatโ€ - do it anyways. Embrace who you are. Take small steps to embrace your body, as difficult as that seems. Wear the skinny jeans, wear the crop top, wear the sports bra - because trust me, people will always have something to say.

So you might as well be happy while people comment. Itโ€™s not easy to block it out but with time you will get there. You got this ๐Ÿ’›

Petronell obtained her physiotherapy degree from the University of the Free State in 2013. Since then she has gained experience working with sport, orthopaedic conditions, paediatrics, women's health, pulmonology, NICU and cardiac patients.

"Sport is the reason why I became a physiotherapist and it will always be my passion. Over the years I had the privilege of working in a variety of physiotherapy fields and experiencing the satisfaction of this wonderful profession. In order to be at your best for others you need to be giving yourself the best first. Giving yourself the best includes a lot of things but mainly SELF-CARE. So many people I see have fatigue, poor sleep, are irritable and have a variety of health concerns. Now yes there are a lot of medical conditions that can explain/ cause these things but the major root cause can be brought down to stress and burnout. So in order to feel better - you need to actually prioritise your mental health.

Here are three ways you can prioritise self-care:

1) Set aside 10 minutes a day where you do NOTHING. Where you can sit with no phone, no work, no people and just be YOU. To process and to actually breathe. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

2) PUT THE PHONE AWAY. Our phones are probably one of the worst culprits - we need to put them away or put limits on how much time we spend on them. ๐Ÿ“ต

3) Say no. Say no to things that make you feel drained or take too much from you. Life is too short and you need to be focusing on things, specifically in your free time, that bring you joy. You can just say no and NOT provide a reason why ๐Ÿ˜‰
