𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝟭𝟬𝟭 – 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆𝘁𝗵𝘀
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: “A prosthetic leg works like a normal leg.”
𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕: It’s a carefully engineered tool that still needs training, rehab and time to master.
𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: “Once you get a prosthesis, the journey is over.”
𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕: Your limb, lifestyle and goals change, your device may need adjustments too.
At DV, we don’t just “fit a leg”
We support a whole journey back to movement.

What does “accessibility” really mean?
Accessibility is more than a ramp at the door. It’s:
• Smooth, even pathways for prosthetic feet and walkers
• Handrails on stairs and bathrooms
• Parking close enough to actually help
• Clear signage and patient-friendly spaces

These small design choices give people back energy, dignity and independence.
DV specialises in the mobility side, but real inclusion happens when the whole community thinks access-first.

Today is World Diabetes Day 💙

Diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar – it can also impact circulation, nerve health and wound healing in your feet and legs. Left unchecked, this may lead to ulcers, infections and, in severe cases, amputation.

At DV Orthotics & Prosthetics, we work alongside your healthcare team to:

Protect at–risk feet with custom orthotic insoles and footwear

Support safe mobility with braces and other devices

Provide advanced prosthetic solutions and rehabilitation after limb loss

If you live with diabetes, remember:
👣 Check your feet daily
🧦 Wear well-fitted, protective footwear
📅 Don’t ignore numbness, tingling or non-healing wounds

Early action saves limbs and lives. 💙

Words shape how we see disability.
❌ “Suffering from…”
✅ “Living with…”
❌ “Confined to a wheelchair”
✅ “Uses a wheelchair”
Neutral, respectful language honours the person first – not the diagnosis.
In the DV practices, we always start with a name and a story, not a label.

At DV Orthotics & Prosthetics, we walk alongside people living with disability every day: listening, problem-solving, and tailoring mobility solutions so they can live fully.

This month, we’ll be sharing tips, stories and practical tools to help build a more accessible, inclusive South Africa. 💙

O&P Day: What we do & why it matters

Orthotists & Prosthetists design, build, and fit custom braces (orthoses) and artificial limbs (prostheses) that restore mobility, reduce pain, and protect long-term joint and skin health.

How O&P helps

Regain function after amputation or injury

Reduce pain from arthritis, ligament tears, spinal issues

Prevent diabetic foot ulcers with off-loading insoles/braces

Support kids’ growth with paediatric bracing

Keep athletes and workers moving safely

Your visit includes: assessment → scan/measure → custom design & fabrication → fitting & training → follow-up for comfort and performance.

If mobility, balance, or pain is limiting you, we can help.
DM/WhatsApp to book an assessment.

Your lymphatic system is your body’s drainage + defense network. After surgery or radiation, flow can slow, causing fluid build-up (lymphedema), heaviness, and tightness. Early care keeps you moving and comfortable.

What helps:
• Gentle daily movement & deep breathing
• Consistent skin care; watch for infection
• Elevation and mindful pacing of activity
• Correctly fitted compression wear
• Education and regular check-ins with your care team

We support you with practical guidance, custom compression solutions, and mobility support, so you can heal confidently.

Checkups: How Often Should I Go?

Your health matters, and regular checkups are your first line of defense.
So, how often should you go?
➡️ Annually if you’re generally healthy and symptom-free.
➡️ Biannually (every six months) if you’re managing a condition, on long-term medication, or have a higher health risk.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure.
Stay proactive, stay informed, and make your health a priority.

Mammogram or Ultrasound?

The truth is, both tests have an important role in breast health.

Mammogram: The gold standard for breast cancer screening, especially for women over 40. It can detect changes too small to feel.
Ultrasound: Often used alongside a mammogram, especially for younger women or those with dense breast tissue. It helps give doctors a clearer view of suspicious areas.

It’s not about choosing one over the other, it’s about using the right tool for the right situation.
