As all of you know by now, I’m a passionate diabetes advocate, registered dietitian & also a person living with type 1 diabetes. For those who haven’t seen the headlines or saw a lot of people wearing blue yesterday, we celebrated world diabetes day. 🥳💙
This day is probably my most favourite day of the year - this says a lot since I always love celebrating birthdays. 😉
This is the one day of the year, where we can educate, advocate and inspire people on what diabetes entails and what signs to look out for. 👇🏼
5 symptoms:
• The need to p*e frequently 🚽
• Extreme thirst 💧
• Hunger 🥙
• Weight loss 💭
• Exhaustion/feeling fatigue 😴
If you or a loved one has been experiencing these symptoms, please go to your nearest clinic or doctor and test your blood glucose levels. 🙏🏼
If you have a loved one who lives with diabetes:
• Ask them how you can support them 🫶🏼
• Listen to what they need or don’t need from you 👂🏼
• Remember - to blame & shame them, is not helpful for eitheir parties 🙉
• Remind them that they are not alone in this - you are their support system 🤲🏻
For people living with diabetes:
• Self-care is not selfish - it is essential 🩵
• It’s okay not to be okay
• You are stronger than you think & braver than you imagine 🙌🏻
• You are resilient!
• People around you care & love you 🥰
• You are not defined by your diabetes
• Diabetes is always better managed, together 👫
The right words always goes a long way! 😉
