This is the time of year when malaria cases increase. Recent rains and receding flood waters in malaria areas create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.

Malaria‑risk areas include low‑altitude regions of Limpopo, Mpumalanga (including the Kruger and private game reserves), northern KwaZulu‑Natal, and neighbouring countries, especially Mozambique.

If you start feeling unwell with flu‑like symptoms such as fever, chills, headaches or body aches, it’s important to seek medical care early. Symptoms may develop weeks after returning, and malaria prevention medication is not 100% effective, even if you took it.

We’re excited to share that Hazeldean Day Hospital has successfully performed its first Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV), a specialised retinal procedure, with Dr Kabelo Sebogodi from All About Eyes Ophthalmology.
Using our newly installed advanced ophthalmology technology, this procedure benefits from clearer imaging, enhanced depth perception, and improved surgical visibility, all of which contribute to improved patient safety and outcomes.
This milestone means that people in Pretoria East now have access to advanced retinal surgery closer to home, without needing referral to larger specialist centres.
