My name is Zolisa Nkabinde. I am currently in my final year of my second bachelor's degree, a BHS - Emergency Medical Care (UJ).

I love music and composing songs. I know this may sound strange, but I nap for fun too. I love visiting new places, especially when it is out in nature, I love hiking too. I have probably hiked more than 150 km cumulatively, to date.

The exciting collaboration of different thoughts and ideas from various minds was what drew me to the organization. Over the years, I have grown an interest in education in the field of health sciences, and SAAHE is just the perfect fit for me.

Learning, and more learning. Attending the conferences has been such an eye-opener for me. I am also looking forward to having loads of fun presenting on such a platform.

Insights on how to better the education system. I am aspiring to be in academia, given this, I am looking forward to getting loads of inspiration from the different people that are already in this.

I am Blessings Nechombo,a fourth year pharmacy student . I am into traveling, cooking and soccer.

As a future pharmacist, I strive to achieve all the qualities of an 8 star pharmacist. One of the qualities is being a life long learner. When I heard about SAAHE, I saw it as an opportunity to professionally develop and fulfill this quality.

During my term as a student task force team( managing the SAAHE 2022 page) , I have learnt to be a team player and to appreciate other people's views and also to showcase my own capabilities.

I look forward to engaging in discussions that will be held and hope to empower others who wish to contribute to the field of health sciences.

Student Spotlight😄

I am Thendo Tshingowe, a final year Bachelor of Pharmacy student at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

I am a lover of sneakers.

The health field has grown so much and I think it is important to remain abreast of developments in the field. The SAAHE conference brings together health educationalists to stimulate dialogue around the impact of changes in public health on the delivery of education to students I the health field. I would like to be exposed to how health educationalist address challenges, respond to national and international changes in the health field and would also like to network and meet young health enthusiasts such as myself.

I am looking forward to exciting and innovative workshops, research presentations and engagements. I also look forward to see the this years theme of the conference “Healing higher education” come to life and conversation being built around evidence based ways that can be used to better higher education post covid 19.

I hope to learn which direction health education is going to take post the conference. Education and health are both very dynamic spaces and ever-changing in response to external and internal factors, I hope to learn more about the gaps in the education system and hope to oneday be involved in closing those gaps.

Hi! I’m Tasha Ainsworth, a 4th year Physiotherapy Student at Stellenbosch University.
I studied dance in New York at The Ailey School for a year before deciding to study Physiotherapy back in Cape Town, to further explore my interest in restoring and optimising the human body’s function

What motivated you to join the SAAHE STF?

Evidence-based, innovative education which fills voids in healthcare communities is essential to shaping the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. Education has always been a special interest of mine, and with the unique student experience as a tool, I hope to feedback and inform adaptations to health education to greater serve our students and community. As a Physiotherapy student, I notice the gap in our representation on such student task forces, and hope that my passion, diligence and drive for leadership will help see changes and input especially where Allied Health is concerned.

I can’t wait to hear the innovative ideas shaping the future of health care education. I also will be listening into the ethical mandatory vaccination debate which will be really interesting to consider and engage in.

I hope that by putting myself out there to hear new ideas from students and future-colleagues that I will form meaningful connections which may help me on my journey as a Physiotherapist. I want to spark and have my thoughts sparked and challenged by engaging healthcare professionals so that I can leave this virtual conference thinking differently!

Student spotlight😄

I am Vania Sharon Tshimweneka, a Human Physiology graduate at the University of Pretoria. I am continuing my studies in doing my honors in Pharmacology and after I want to do surgery.
I love working with people and love helping others to have good health, let it be physically or mentally. I am I would like to do clinical research where I closely observe the factors that causes the different brain diseases as well as the novel pharmacological therapies that can help prevent or treat these diseases taking inconsideration the different clinical stages of drug development as well as how combination of different drugs in the different stages can help alleviate the symptoms and help ameliorate the conditions of affected patients.
I strongly believe that it is important to have integrations of different disciplines in medicine as it helps us students who are studying to join the medical corps to not separate our different courses from each other because just as the different body parts are linked so are the different disciplines in medicine. I joined the SAAHE STF to get to know the different views of other students and professionals in the different medical disciplines. I also believe interacting with others is a good way to learn and respect others.
I look forward to hearing about the different papers the speakers will present as well as to hear how the different delegates that will be present will be present in the conference have dealt with the challenges that the pandemic has thrown to them. I feel like hearing the thoughts and experience of others equip you better to certain challenges that you are facing or will face in the future.
Having the conference online actually has shown me that there is no limitation to learning and exploring new ways to do things. From my personal experience I can say that sometimes as student we tend to avoid change and that can be in any manner but seeing how we had to change a lot during the pandemic, I can see that change in one’s life is inevitable and instead of avoiding or evading it we need to adapt to it and that is the only way we can move forward and be successful. I n the future I hope to use all that I leaned from the different disciplines that were present in the conference in my own discipline as well as to help others.
