Many have probably heard of the complications of diabetes.

Because uncontrolled blood glucose levels are in the blood, almost every organ in the body is influenced by it.
This means that every cell in your body that receives blood, gets damaged by these high sugar levels.

Small cells and small blood vessels have big responsibilities in the daily functioning of the body and basic functions we rely on like sight ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ, food and fluid digestion, as well as the heart pumping reduce if the blood vessels are damaged.

Protecting all organs from this damage is the end goal when managing diabetes, both type 1 and type 2.

The International Osteoporosis Federation states that worldwide 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will suffer a bone fracture due to osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a bone disease that develops when bone mineral density and bone mass decreases, or when the structure and strength of bone changes. This can lead to a decrease in bone strength that can increase the risk of fractures (broken bones).

Reduce your risk by following the these tips:
๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿป Participate in exercise, especially Weight- bearing exercise- even if it is bodyweight by walking
๐Ÿบ Drink alcohol in moderation
๐Ÿšญ Stop smoking
๐Ÿฅ› Eat a healthy diet and consume enough calcium
๐Ÿฉบ Visit your doctor and discuss your risks
๐Ÿ’Š Manage your medications that can be a risk for reducing your bone density

HbA1c reflects an average of blood glucose levels over a 2-3 month period.

It is commonly misunderstood that it reflects only high blood glucose levels.

But did you know high HbA1c levels can be indicative of uncontrolled, FLUCTUATING blood glucose levels?

Frequent highs and lows can also result in uncontrolled blood glucose levels.

Not all patients have the same ranges to achieve- for some a blood glucose of 4.5 is low and for others a 8.2 is too high.

Endocrinologists are skilled in a way to help you achieve YOUR BEST BLOOD GLUCOSE results and keep YOUR HbA1c in range of what is considered healthy for you.

Did you know many diabetics do not know their most recent HbA1c levels?

HbA1c is an important measure of how well controlled (or uncontrolled) your diabetes. It is vital in helping your doctor always ensure optimal managing of your condition by using the blood test as a guide cor treatment modifications. Often one medication is not sufficient in managing blood sugar levels and your doctor might add another medication to the regimen you currently use.

Itโ€™s important that you understand what the results mean and how to stop it from getting too high. Even a slightly raised HbA1c level makes you more at risk of serious complications.

If you answer any of these questions YES, you should do your blood tests again and seek guidance from a qualified doctor with skills in managing diabetes:

Are you a diabetic or at risk of developing diabetes (overweight or family history of diabetes)
Donโ€™t know your HbA1c levels?
Canโ€™t remember the last time you did your tests?
Do you struggle with managing your daily finger prick test results and keep it in the recommended normal ranges?

Menopause is a point in time 12 months after a woman's last menstrual cycle. The years leading up to that point, women may have changes in their monthly cycles, hot flashes.
This is called the menopausal transition or perimenopause.

The perimenopausal most often begins between ages 45 and 55. It usually lasts about seven years but can be as long as 14 years. The duration can depend on lifestyle factors such as smoking, age of onset, and ethnicity. During perimenopause, the body's production of estrogen and progesterone, two hormones made by the ovaries, varies greatly.

Permenopause affects each woman uniquely and in various ways. The body begins to use energy differently, resulting in fat cells changing, and women may gain weight more easily. You may experience changes in your bone or heart health, your body shape and composition, or your physical function.

If you might have experienced some of these symptoms or even suspect you may be in perimenopause or menopause- consult with a hormone specialist like an endocrinologist for adequate evaluation and treatment.

Obesity and low muscle mass can co-exist in an individual and has been shown to negatively influence quality of life and health. We refer to this as sarcopenic obesity. New research published in the Obesity Journal, reported that patients with type 2 diabetes who have sarcopenic obesity, have an increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). 17% of more than 3000 individuals were monitored for an average of 9years, had CKD incidence.

Managing weight, chronic inflammation and kidney function when you have diabetes is vital in protecting tour overall health and organ functions.
