🧘‍♀️🧠 Heel drops work by using gentle physical impact and rhythm to help shift your body from a “fight-or-flight” (sympathetic) state into a calmer “rest-and-digest” (parasympathetic) state.

The practice is thought to stimulate the vagus nerve through the subtle vibrations created when your heels hit the ground, while also providing strong proprioceptive feedback that grounds your awareness in the present moment and away from anxious thoughts.

This rhythmic movement can also help discharge built-up stress energy in the body.

To practice, stand with feet hip-width apart, lift your heels slightly, and let them drop back down with a soft thud, repeating rhythmically for about a minute.

Pairing the movement with breath—inhale as you rise, exhale as you drop—can deepen the calming effect.

Beyond mental relaxation, heel drops are also used in physical therapy to support bone density and strengthen lower leg muscles.
