“Native science is the collective heritage of human experience with the natural world; in its most essential form, it is a map of natural reality drawn from the experience of thousands of human generations. It has given rise to the diversity of human technologies...in profound ways Native science can be said to be "inclusive" of modern science, although most Western scientists would go to great lengths to deny such inclusivity.

traditional knowledges include sophisticated site-specific and culture-specific instructions, embedded in the landscape and evidenced in unique skill sets, activities, and localized knowledges. If followed properly, these instructions are intended to ensure both short-term survival and long-term human health, community sustainability, and preservation of unique ecosystems” (Apffel-Marglin 2011; Berkes 2012).

Where is our wealth in Oral Traditions?

Our wealth in the living is our Elders.

The Elders embodied lived experience carry the wisdom of those who came before.

Wealth in Indigenous Ways is an embodied relationship with nature, receiving from the elements and flowing with the cosmos.

Wealth is in Humanity, an anthology of A people: self, ancestry, & culture of community.

I want to change the narrative in my lifetime where as an inheritance I will leave generational wealth for my progeny and community instead of generational trauma and curses as is the standard amongst us as African people, the prevalence of this is seen by the number of people who initiate to heal the generation.

As I journey, I have become aware that most of us are programmed to live events-based lives where we look forward to occasions, to events to happenings instead of a life of constant presence and being. When we are led by events, we start to lead a life which is extrinsic, only validated by expectation and accomplishment- missing that which is present to us, meaning is taken from what we should look forward to or should attain instead of what we have available to us in the here & now. This societal conditioning is what makes us feel strangers in our own personhood when we do not reach all the expectant milestones, that job, that degree, the marriage. Our lives are structured around imagining fulfilment coming from ticking these boxes or a bucket list as we call it.
How do we make sense of the everyday “mundane”

Indigenous Ways gift us with a way to come home to our inner garden.

Ukujula: meditation/deep presence & awareness / mindfulness / heartfulness

We begin to cultivate an awareness & inquiry on how we see ourselves, the world, our bodies, our relationships. Are these just at face value?

We explore with open curiosity how we come to conclusions in present moment to moment living about ourselves & others and the conditions and challenges of our lives.

We get to experience how conditioning, perspective and worldview is subjective and potentially limiting to the vastness and fullness of life and how we can comfortably explore the range and depth of living fully in the present moment.

In the upcoming ‘Rites of Passage’ container we will be rooting in Indigenous Mindful Practices.

While there is great diversity among Indigenous Peoples, there are also some commonalities in Indigenous worldviews and ways of being.

Indigenous worldviews see the whole person (physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual) as interconnected to land and in relationship to others (family, communities, nations). a holistic or wholistic view.

Indigenous ways understood the principles which govern the cosmos, nature and the human condition to be communal experience

In our upcoming Rites of passage container we will be awakening to the medicine of of indigenous ways.

The offering is weekly 2.5 hour sessions over 6 weeks.

The container will be run on a participatory style of imparting, and is open to a diverse group of those who feel called to find ways to be supported by the wisdom of Ancestry & Indigenous ways.

To actually know whats happening as it is happening is what embodiment practice cultivates & strengthen: our access to what’s already here.

Embodiment doesn’t ask for us to strive by fixing yourself or doing self improvement to become these better/shinier versions of ourselves but rather to gain more immediate contact with the vastness of being we all embody: openness, wisdom and warmth and our overall awareness.

We journey with embodiment practice by returning to the Wisdom of The Body & Earth by exploring our own:

awareness of the body

awareness of pleasant/unpleasant experiences

awareness of thoughts and emotions

Awareness of constant change

Awareness of the limitations of the solid- fixed self as opposed to fluid self

We ultimately are cultivating an intimate relationship with ourselves and our lives in present moment to moment awareness.

What you can expect to cultivate through embodiment is:

•Intimacy with the present moment.

•Intimacy with our health.

•Intimacy with our bodies

which we often shelve because of judgements such of the body not: being/good enough, spiritual, too old, too young or whatever this is where we often miss the vibrancy of the body through the felt sense of the five senses(a somatic approach)

“If we are not limited by the idea that we are bound to this appearance and expression, we can continue to track where we really come from, and expand our sense of “self”.

If we trace our journey back through our ancestors, we will see we are related to a lot more people and cultures than we were cognisant of. If we trace back further still, we will find we are related to everybody.

Digging deeper we will see that we are related to the animal kingdom too, the plant kingdom, the mineral kingdom. Our bacteriological ancestry has accompanied us for longer than we have been human.

They were here before us and began to structure our DNA functioning before we were fully humanoid. We have evolved for millions of years together with these kin.

They have made fine choices for our best evolution, and continue to do so, selecting systems and resources for our highest awareness.

These are the same ancestors and facilitators of plant, animal and mineral functioning too. We are all family. When we include in our ancestral line the elements that all material emerged out of, we see that everything eventually is of the same stuff. There is only one dreamer of this incredible dream, and we each have full access to it.

We can begin to feel our self as one very tall being through time. We can recognise our elemental ancestral being in the earth beneath us; our familial ancestors in our feet and legs, supporting us and giving strength to the journey.

In the core of our body we find our optimal state is to rest most comfortably in the heart, and if we care to orientate from here we find it induces a multidimensional capacity for understanding, or as it is expressed in Tibetan, bodhichitta, the blossoming of compassion or loving-kindness. This motivates our vocal expression and inner vision, which forges our path forward as we dream this life into being. This is what lies in wait for our descendants, our future expression. This creation will take instruction from our imagination; our ancient wisdom tends to be the wisest instruction” - Lipton

“Spiritual awakening is not a goal or destination...it is a constant invitation to embrace yourself exactly as you are, in all your glorious imperfection.” - Foster

Something can look round or square depending on perspective.
often get so drawn into our narratives on self, others and the world that we ignore the vastness of life and existence and the mystery it presents to us which we can so easily miss when we are just drawn into the particulars of our own lives.

At the heart of any awakening is the call to return to the present moment, what is here asking of us to be with?

As the petals unfold from the bud, one by one, into a spiraling beautiful, sensual flower, we too can unfold the petals of our hearts.
Opening up, one by one, each aspects of our inner world, bringing one by one each part of us into unconditional Love and acceptance.

What are Rites of Passage:

A rite of passage is defined as a ritual or experience that marks a major milestone or change in a person’s life from: birth, teenage-hood, adulthood, marriage, death, loss, success and dealing with the day to day sense of living.

There a rituals which accompany every single living stage of life. Rites are holistic in being designed for the human condition. They are journeys of unbecoming & becoming holistically in our consciousness awareness & enlightenment.

They allow us to anchor & ground ourselves in the here & now holistically.

If you feel called to explore this, there is an offering currently open which will be beginning in May where we will explore rite of passage 🍂
